We are members of LACMA and can get tickets for the Dali exhibition at LACMA (http://www.lacma.org/art/ExhibDali.aspx)before they go on sale to the general public (Oct. 1).

We're planning on getting tickets for Saturday, November 10. If anyone would like to join us, confirm by THIS SATURDAY that you will be joining us.

Tickets are $20.

Sorry for the short notice, but the deadline suddenly appeared.

I won't know a time until I call the reservation office and see what's available. I'm probably going to try for mid-day.

Our entire social life is built around the mantra, "Work, no work, work, no work" as we play "spin the calendar" to see if it's a Saturday the CP works.

Work and work and more work especially on a Saturday. Not only that but funds are limited due to a band's world tour coming up. Have fun everyone going if it were a weeknight i could possibly.

Yeah, cute butt there, GC!

Do you guys have any idea how lucky you are to live in an area with so many cultural opportunities? We're lucky to get a 'Masters of Etch-A-Sketch' exhibit around here.

Must I wear pants to said exhibit?

No. But people who don't understand your aversion to pants may have a problem with it. Namely the people who work there. And other patrons.
We can always throw water on you and then light a fire so you can explain how you need to dry off your pants while not wearing them.

I would encourage all of you Dali-goers to also get tickets to the swanky Koop show that evening. The thread is here. (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showthread.php?t=6878)

Great idea!

How far is that from the MOCA?
Is it open seating or do we need to buy in a block to all sit together?

The venue is in Downtown - not terribly far from LACMA. (We're going to LACMA not MOCA). No seats - or at least reserved ones - at the event.

What a fantastic swanking! I intend to go back and revisit the exhibition again during its run, but I don't think that it'll be the same without the presence of all the hip LoTers.

Some highlights for me:
- Destino. Disney meets Dali. And it works.
- All of the drawings from the unrealized Marx Brothers project. "Groucho Shiva" - flaming giraffes.
- The letters between Dali and Bunuel. Hysterical!

Thanks again to NA for making us aware of this and hooking us up with tix!

My faves were as follows:

-Destino
-That one with like the skeleton dudes on bicycles and the piano filled with water
- The elderly gentleman on the park bench browsing a playboy

Campire at Night Lit By Flaming Giraffes was my fave Dali piece at the exhibit.

I expected to see some great artwork on his collaboration with Disney on Destino ... but when I rounded the corner and saw DESTINO playing in front of my eyes, it was a surrealistic sensation worthy of everything Dali may have ever tried to convey. Definitely the highlight of the museum portion of the day.

Sigh, even with all the wonderful fun had there with swankers - and not to diminish it in any way - it was (as €uroMeinke so aptly put it) but an appetizer to the unexpected and fantabulous musical evening experience that was the Koop Koncert at the Barker Block Loft Wine Tasting Rooftop Swankland Extravaganza.

All in all though, a fun-filled day of art and music with friends, one I will never forget. That it was merely part of a four day festival of art, music, friends, nature and hedonism just boggles my mind.

My parents were in town yesterday - I was going to take them to the Getty, but both of them said they'd rather see the Dali exhibit, so we went.

It's so worth going (even twice) - esp. if you can make it during the week when you have time to really wander the galleries without the crowds.

But according to my soft watch, time is running out... tick.. tick... tick
