Hello. I know this was brought up in another thread, but I can't find it because the keywords are the products names, which I don't recall.

It's time for my annual renewal of McAfee program, and they want $39.99 for it, if you can find where to renew with out upgrading to the 8 program package they want you to buy for $50.

I recall some mention of free virus software, but I wonder how well they update if the user doesn't pay.

And, is there good low cost virus programs out there that don't charge $40-50?

Thank you, and now we will at least have a thread with the words Virus Program for future searches ;) .

I'm using McAfee and mine expires shortly. Kevy (and other LoTers) have pointed me to AVG free (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-anti-virus-free-edition). I like it, and I am actually not going to renew McAfee and go with the full $50 pay version of AVG. For one thing, when it scans my PC, it does not slow it down, which is a good thing.

Oh, the only downside to the free version of AVG is that it does scan your PC every day, you can't schedule it to scan weekly. It's not a big deal, I merely cancel the scan. It updates daily and runs great.

AVGFree is the way to go. I believe they can offer a outstanding free AV product because their subscription services also include the AV product. It doesn't cost them more to support the free product.

I also use Lavasoft AdAware to handle potential spyware.
