"In one study, more than one-third of middle-school students responded "yes" when asked whether they are bullied because of the clothes they wear."

But is the bullying about fashion or is it about the fascist side of conformity? One of the responses is Ugly Ducklings (http://www.uglyducklings.org/), "a national campaign to reduce bullying and harrassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth".

Your thoughts? Experiences with fashion bullying?

We've had sort of the opposite experience- Tori has actually had people make snarky comments because she wears nice clothes. Not Chanel-nice, but stuff from the Limited Too, A&F and American Eagle. We get just about everything on sale so it's not like we spend a fortune on her clothes, but I've had other parents and their kids comment on what a clothes hound she is. These same people think nothing of dropping tons of money on sports clothes, which we do not do. I know when she hits Junior High the dynamic will change and the higher labels will be more conspicuous, but for now most of her peers are all over the place fashion-wise.

We live in a world where there are mean people who want to make themselves feel better by degrading others. If it isn't fashion, it will be something else. Campaign away, but people being what they are, it isn't going to change.

Physical violence is certainly something that shouldn't be tolerated, but snarky comments will always be there no matter what types of speech codes are implemented. And I hate speech codes. As sad as it is, people have a right to say hurtful things for whatever the reason.

Jr. high kids make fun of each other's clothes?! Next you're going to tell me that high school kids are obsessed with the opposite sex!

The basic jist of a conversation I overheard at Maddy's choir pratice a couple of years ago. The girls were about 9.

Girl 1 - I got this shirt at Ambercrombe.
Girl 2 - No you didn't. It's probably from Wal Mart.
Girl 1 - No it isn't.
Girl 2 - Let me see the tag then.

So far Maddy hasn't gotten into labels, yet. I'm sure it's coming.

Sheesh, what is this world coming to. Next thing you know, frat boys will be getting drunk every weekend...Actually, it would be surprising if they limited it to just the weekends.

So, the kids making fun of my clothes in Jr. High were just ahead of their time?

Or am I really from the future.

My head hurts.
