Speaking of masks - I can never see the eponymous phrase without thinking of this irritating jingle (to the tune of London Bridge)
Happy Happy Halloween, Halloween, Halloween
Happy Happy Halloween, Silver Shamrock
Now, the movie that comes from is a serious guilty pleasure. Absolute rubbish, but it's oddly compelling. I watch it every year around this time.

Happy Haunts all! I'm in the land where the paddy wagons will be out in force arresting anyone attempting to party in the Castro this year. Many moons ago, that was a gret party to be at, crowded and fun, not so much now, more prone to violence and crime, which is sad.

You worry too much / You make yourself sad
You can't change fate / But don't feel so bad
Enjoy it while you can / It's just like the weather
So quit complaining brother . . . . . . .
No one lives forever!!
Let's have a party there's a full moon in the sky
It's the hour of the wolf and I don't want to die
I'm so happy dancing while the grim reaper
Cuts, cuts, cuts
But he can't get me (I'm as)
Clever as can be, and I'm very quick, but don't forget
No one lives forever!!!
You think you got it rough / What about your darling doggy?
Ten short years / And he's getting old and groggy
I don't think it's very fair
Cold, chop, low, but it's all relative my friend 'cause
No one lives forever!!!
Let's have a party there's a full moon in the sky
It's the hour of the wolf and I
Don't want to die (but) . . .
No one beats him at his game
For very long but just the same
Who cares, there's no place safe to hide
Nowhere to run--no time to cry
So celebrate while you still can
'Cause any second it may end.
And when it's all been said and done . . .
Better that you had some fun
Instead of hiding in a shell-Why make your life a living hell?
So have a toast, and down the cup
And drink to bones that turn to dust ('cause) . . .
No one, no one, no one, no one . . . . . . . (etc.)
No one lives forever!! (Hey!)

We're in a new apartment complex so I have no idea if there will be any trick or treaters coming around. It is gated but there are quire a few young kids around. Our porch light is automatic and can't be turned off.
So I'll probably just play Guitar Hero III all evening (finally, my Wii has a purpose) and ignore the doorbell if it rings.
But maybe, if I'm feeling social the first door ringer will get the bag of Mickey's Not So Scary candy we dragged back from Florida dropped into their aggressive pandhandling hands.

Well, I decorated my office's conference room for our Halloween Party. Waaa, the last party we will have here, and the last round of party decorating at this cushy job that basically lets me have a day off to decoarate and then tear down the many holiday parties we (used to) have throughout the year.
It was kind of a subdude party this time ... morale here is low. There will be no Christmas party this year - because it will be days away from everyone seeing each other for the last time. Not very Christmassy.
So this was our last office party ever. Waaaa. I will miss the free hand they give me to decorate. Love(d) that.
Oh well, off to great Haunted House after work, then WeHo. Maybe I'll run intoi Cherny.
Oh, the building down the block does their lobby all decked out for Halloween. Like an underground dungeon with tree roots hanging from the ceiling. Snakes and bats and spiders and tombs and moving figures and a creepy bride with headless groom.
Best of all is the Psycho Elevator ... it's the Bates Motel bathroom with a neon Bates Motel vacancy sign, all painted white inside with a towel bar and bloody towel, and ... OMG, a shower ... with bloody protruding body parts sticking out of the shower curtain, and the recorded sounds of shower water and the Psycho theme.

No hairy ass cheeks and fake sagging boobs with exposed fake saggy nipples at our halloween contest this year, mercifully. No particularly interesting costumes to speak of either.
Our department didn't enter a pumpkin into the carving contest this year thanks to what happened last year. It was straight out of an Office episode. Our boss all but demanded that someone carve one. He looked at it and decided it sucked, so he demanded someone else "fix" it (they shoved a couple circuit boards into the side of its head or something). Then, when it won a prize (I believe there were 5 pumpkins entered and 3 prizes given out), whined that he didn't get a share of the prize (literally telling anyone who made the mistake of listening that that pumpkin "sucked" and that the prize money should be split). I'm shocked that no one was clamoring for the opportunity this year.

Ah well. I'll have to see if any of the kids show up at home. Some of them are hilliarious. Last year I got this montion activated witch that's about 3 feet high and flaps her arms and giggles when she goes off. Unfortunaltely there are really steep steps that lead up to my apartment and a very small landing befor the door. She was scaring the bejeebers of of the kiddos and I was afraid one of them would fall backwards down the stairs so I had to move her. One kid came back twice cause he liked my candy. He must have been four or so.

None for us. Not a surprise.
One for us before we got a sign on the door saying "sorry, no candy."
They were unaccompanied. I was in the middle of a song on Guitar Hero III and Lani was in a boss fight so we just didn't answer the door. They knocked five times, some them real poundings.
So that pissed us off. If they hadn't done that we'd have gotten organized and been prepared to be handing out some candy. So instead we put up the sign went pack to our video games and will eat it ourselves.

I'm totally dying here.
Chip keeps passing by my desk.
I can't stop laughing...
:DAt the droppings???
Happy Halloween!
I left a bowl full of lollipops on my front porch with a note to take only one I did that once. It was my first appartment, and no funds for candy. So I played the trick instead. I put an empty cardboard box on the porch with a "Take One" note and my freind and I got a chuckle everytime kids looked into the box and said "Oh! It's all gone!"
I'm off to weho!Oh! West Hollywood! I get it!!
Swamped. Bags upon bags given out. Easily twice the number we had last year.Same here, at least twice. All candy gone by 8:30 (three big bags, plus toys for the little ones).

Went to a Halloween party in Toluca Lake tonight. Several kids came by. My friends had a haunted graveyard out front. It was pretty cool.
We watched "Bell Book and Candle", "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (Disney animated) and "Ghostbusters".
It was a fun night.
Methinks me had too much wine though... ;)
Happy Halloween, Everybody!

Sounds like a great party. I'm attending one this Saturday, at a funeral home. I haven't got a costume yet. I'm hoping to find something heavily discounted tomorrow.

WeHo Halloween was just amazing, and something I plan on doing many more times.
I can't believe I've lived in this town for 30 years, even living in West Hollywood for a time, and never experienced this iconic Los Angeles street happening festivus of masquerade carnaltivality.
Wow.

Heather's brother drove down from the Bay Area yesterday afternoon with his family. We took went to DCA to participate in "Mickey's Halloween Treat". It was particularly exciting for their 2-year-old daughter Chloe. She refused to sit in her stroller or be held - she wanted to hold Heather's hand as she walked all over DCA, dressed as Mickey Mouse, and collecting ridiculous amounts of candy from cheerful cast members. Apparently, she's been scared by recent Nightmare Before Christmas TV commercials, so I read her the kids book before we left and gave her a bendy Jack to hold in the car. By the time we got to the park, she was saying "Hi, Jack!" to all of the people dressed as the character. We didn't do any attractions, but it really wasn't about grown-ups. In all, a mellow and satisfying Halloween.

2 kids before I left to go help T & K.
Got home about 11:30 (the 22 is all fvckered up - ended up taking the 22 west to Magnolia then Magnolia to the 405).
Was tempted and taunted to go out to Sharkees in NB but that just wasn't happening. Too tired. Damn shame too cause my Jessica Rabbit dress was calling my name.

Another year...another bust of a Halloween. I'm in a small neighborhood and there are not too many kids. No one comes from the outside here either. At least I have enough Reese's cups to last me until Christmas (my favorite candy of all time)

Many kids and a great haul for ours. I won't have to cook for a week. Plus, when we put half a big bowl out at 8:00 with a sign that said "Please take one," the bowl was immediately emptied. Terrible behavior to be sure, but it's good to have the stuff out of the house.

We had about 15 total. A far cry from the hundreds we had in Lakewood. (Last year, we went through 4 of those 105 piece bags.)
I love Bill dearly, but his genteel southern upbringing sometime leaves him clueless. The first time he answered the door last night, he held the bowl out to let them pick their own candy. One tweenie girl scooped up 2 big handsfull and fled. The look on Bills face was priceless!

It was a great party except I kept getting pulled back into work all night.
But after a point, I couldn't keep going back in... Drunk Brads don't drive...
I couldn't make it down south to help Disneyphile move, either.
But the good news is is that my friend Jan is one of the best bakers ever.
The pumpkin pie she made was one of the best I've ever tasted.

Hmmm, I didn't run into Cherny last night in WeHo.
I don't understand.
There were only an estimated 300,000 people there .... How could I have missed him?
What were you dressed (or undressed) as, Cherny???

Nor would I. That's why our neighborhood has signed a pact to pass out only raw veggies with a low glycemic load, tofu chunks, lowfat string cheese and pamphlets on world hunger. The kids love it. Just like they go crazy at birthday parties when somebody finally puts a crack in the piñata and the first brocolli florettes spill out for them to gather up and give to the poor.

Oh, that reminds me that my grandma said some teenager came dressed as a naked man last night. I had to clarify that it was a costume and not someone showing up in the buff. Gotta love language barrier.
In other news, my thing at the Boys and Girls Club in Long Beach went really well. Kids seemed really happy and that's what it was all about. Of course, there were kids coming up to my Ring Toss station time and time again, so I had to become a "mean angel" and limit them to three attempts, because I was starting to blow through the candy like CRAZY.
Afterward, hanging out with NA & € was fun, especially trying to sneak into their house, blending in with the zombies outside so that they wouldn't realize we were there.

I think we should have a LoT Zombie Party next year.
We'll all dress up as zombies and just wander the streets zombie style.
I think that would be fun.

It's very interesting. Each year my birthday is on the exact same day of the week that the 4th of July and Halloween land.

Had a lovely night, spent with Tom at Universal Studios. I haven't stayed up that late on a weeknight in years!
In front of the Bates house, Norman said to me: "You look like someone I could bring home to mother." Made my evening!
