Disneyland announced July 15th as the official re-launch date for Space Mountain. Just in time for the 50th, and it's probably a safe bet that there will be a soft openeing before that (yuu think they're going to leave just 2 days to get things running before the 17th?).

It's nice to know a (kind-of) date to go by in my mind. And yeah, that would be retah-ded to open it that soon to the 17th, so I'm hoping that they soft open it sooner. I would have thought it would have been a month before. That would be the pits to have major break-down issues on the 17th. Anyone else remember the first few days of fine rides, such as Splash Mountain? I particularly remember SM (because I was out in CA that summer) and how many times it shut down in the first week, even first month!

OH well...

I'm still looking forward to having that ride, or some semblance of it back.

First there was the soft opening of Pooh.

Then there was Buzz's soft opening.

Now, we have a soft Space opening.

Kinky. :D

As I don't know much about "previews" or "soft openings", is there any chance in hell they might have it open June 21-26 for something like that? That's when the fam and I will be there this summer.....

3 weeks before? Probably unlikely, though there might be an outside shot.

My favorite ride....attached is a pic of me, boyfriend-at-the time, a pal and one brother on SM in '82 I think...we went on the ride again and I had my eyes closed when my brother's hat flew into my lap. Crimeny! I thought for a second it was his head!

(This is just too cool- I've only been able to ride Space Mountain one time, as it is always closed when I visit).

The first time I rode SM was in Orlando, 1982. I just finished 7th grade, and I made my dad go on it with me. He swore for years that he'd get even with me.

Oddly I don't remember any of my rides at DLR though I know I've ridden it. I can't wait to ride it now that it's reborn! :)

The Florida version of Space Mountain is nothing like the Anaheim version. It actually has more in common with the Matterhorn as it's the same ride system and train types, although a different track layout.

florida is basically matterhorn inside of the SM building
Paris is basically the Rockin Rollercoaster + OG Space Mountain.....

i like ours the best ;)

why?

i take it he feels differently? The different track layout, and the lack of the mountain mean very different ride experience to him (if I recall past posts of his correctly), not just "Matterhorn in a building".

Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom in Florida serves the same attraction purpose as Matterhorn at DL, but isn't the same ride (in a box).

Here's another pic from that trip - trying to stand on Space Mountain, proving decapitation is impossible:

Weren't you the one whose hands hit the track above on WDW's Space Mountain? Or was that someone else? (And if so, who? This is driving me crazy!)

Heh, it was me - old habbit die hard ;)

But someone else get's the honor of being the first to discover that the "widened" Matterhorn caves - are still not "wide" enough at certain places. She can identify herself, if she so desires.

You guys need to ride the Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in England - if you don't duck while going up the lift, you'll smack your head...
