OK, so I just got a call from my mom, who was at a party this weekend with someone who is doing some work for Disney (sorry for being so cryptic, but I'm pretty sure that this is not ready for the public yet). He tells her that he's creating something special for (get ready for it) "the 2000 special guests for Disneyland's 50th Anniversary."

No ticket announcement yet at disneygallery.com

my stomach hurts.

2000 huh? Anyone recall attendance numbers for any of the nightmare or other merchandise events?

2000 Specail Guests is NOTHING! I'm amazed unless it's press.

It's probably movie people, or present and past Disney talent, etc. Or it could be a big shindig for the sharp pencil boys!

not surprised at all... remember the haunted mansion special events, when you got to eat dinner in the dining room of the ride? for some exorborant amount of money?

I'm not jumping to any conclusions. Perhaps a ton of Disney icons. 2000 seems like a rather arbitrary large number, though. Doesn't have much to do with "50".

It's divisible by 50.

Perhaps it's 2000 people who were there on opening day? Or for the 2000 memebers of the media who supposedly will be at the park on 5/4 (the day DL closes to the general public).

I'm not concerned about the actual park closing on the actual bday. They'd have a riot on their hands.

2000 seems in line with merchandising events priced around $100 a head (with hotel add on options for hundreds more). Depending on the event I might be inclined to participate - though I'd rather they do an all night event at about $50.00 for 10K people (2000 is too small to have all but an attraction or two open)

The really pricey mansion event, I think was limited to less than 50.

As for the number 2000, maybe they'll find a way to add 500 so we get 2500 (or 50 X 50). Marketting clearly needs more numerologists on staff.

Ok, perhaps this is what we're all talking about?

We just got the AP "calendar" mailer for March-May. It mentions a contest where 2,500 APers will get to go to the "50th Anniversary Premiere Event" on May 4th (yes, May 4th, not 5th). It does not mention particulars on this event at all, just that you go to http://disneyland.com/ap and register with the site to enter (if you're already registered, you're already entered).

I wonder what the hell they're cooking up. The 4th is the day the park is closed, supposedly to dress up the park for the 5th (but also to wine and dine the media). I think I'd take the day off if I won this drawing, just because it's a rare treat. Good luck to everyone!

Very interesting. And it makes sense, given the nature of the giveaway.
Disneygallery still hasn't updated it's status on July 15-17, so I'm still betting on a hard ticket event, but at least it probably won't be as limited. Phew.
