View Full Version : Twas the Disneyland Before Christmas

... and all through the Park, all was so lovely ... let's go for a lark!

I haven't had enough Disneyland Christmas this year, and I'm going back on Christmas Eve Eve .... if anyone would like to join up for some wonderful Christmassy goodness.

I think one of the most marvelous Xmas-things I've ever experienced was on Main Street, just after this past Thanksgiving. It was my first time seeing this year's holiday decorations, highlighted by the beautiful new winter wonderizing of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Gemini Cricket and Laurie and I were watching Holiday Believe fireworks and basking in the beautiful snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A. ... when who did we find wandering through the crowds but a teeny tiny Minnie Mouse and her beau, Mickey. They had no handlers, and were going from person to person in the astonished throng, hugging everyone a Merry Christmas.

It was pure Disney magic of the first order.

I've been back a few times, grabbing Christmas tendrils here and there ... but I've an urge to wrap it all up in pretty bow the evening of Sunday, December 23 - - the eve before Christmas Eve.

I just feel like I've been missing some of the Christmasization Disneyland has to offer ... especially the fireworks and snowfall, which I've seen cancelled, stopped in mid-show, just missed, and otherwise out-of-breath from a downtown disney race.

I'm gonna nab a typical "Remember" spot in front of the Castle, and watch Believe and the stunning Sleeping Beauty transforation from a fabulous perch. I'll bring a blanket and save some room. Please join me for Holiday pryomagicalisms!

Let's watch both stages of the earlier Castle Christmacizing at 5:30 and 7:30 (are those the times??). Let's ogle it's a small world in its XmasLight Glory, and hang around for one of the periodic projection shows of Nutcracker Sweetness.

Let's ride a bobsled down the icy slopes of the Majestic Matterhorn, and enjoy any other attractions that have a seasonal greetings connection.

Let's see Santa's reindeer over by the awesome XmasLight treefest on Big Thunder Trail. And harken to Dickens Carolers on Main Street USA, the Chrismassiest Street on Earth.

It'll be a night of hanging out in the Park from twilight till late night. Fun as they are, no gargantuan meals in Downtown Disney. When we're hungry ... and though it won't be breakfast ... let's sample the new menu at the just-reopened River Belle Terrace.

So if anyone's up for some last-minute Yuletide treats, please meet me at the Park this coming Sunday. The most important Christmas ingredient can't be provided by Disneyland. It's the company of friends that makes the holiday special.

 Let's have one last Merry Christmas Evening on Christmas Eve Eve at Disneyland.

Ya'll have fun and please post some pics of the nightime IASW, please. I will need some Xmas cheer as I am cleaning house on the night before the night before Xmas.

Sadly, this Cinderella will have soot on her nose and her glass slippers were broken at Oakland Airport baggage claim.

I am tempted to try and go, but it's very unlikely since I used up two of my grandma's Disneyland passes. We shall see, I suppose.

I am trying to hold onto one that I know is there for May. Though I will probably blow back into town before then for a quick day or two to get my grad stuff in line before walking in May, so it's the next definite time I'll be back in town after the first.

I LOVED our Christmas Swanking this past Sunday. As Cadaverous Pallor so apty put it over the three-hour-dinner table (and I paraphase), it doesn't matter what we do .... we have so much fun just being together.

Oh so true.

And yet, I am feeling as if I missed a few ounces of Christmas at the Disneyland Christmas Swanking.

This is a more low-key sequel. And there WILL BE hot chocolate. And bobsled ride. And lot's more twinkly Castle. And mucho Main Street. And pretty small world. And fireworks. And snow.

And, yes, a bite to eat at the River Belle Terrace. HeeHee.

Holy crap! That's a lot of work for you - she must've done something awful. (hey, no TV for you, either?)

It was actually fairly easy. She has my old laptop and a 12" tv - so no biggie. I'm just making a point that I'm completely serious. It's not a first offense.

Eh the thing that sucks about punishing the kid is you don't get to do the fun stuff either, like Disneyland. Ah well. Hopefully the lesson will be learned.

Sheesh, how crowded did you think it would be??? I haven't seen the Park that busy since May 5th of 50th Year.

But a pleasant time was had by all, I daresay. Even camping out for fireworks that never happened was a more pleasant way to spend time with each other than battling through the thronging crowds.

Ugh, fireworks are just not in the cards this year. And what was with the complete false advertising of 3 Castle stages of progressive transition?!? Now that we had a chance to finally watch all 3 "stages," we discovered it was a complete lie.

Still, there was yummy hot chococlate, beatifully Christmastime Main Street, stunning small world with Nutcracker spectacular at close range, a screamingly rapid plunge down the Matterhorn's icy slopes, a twinkly pretty castle despite false advertising, and welcoming in teh Christmas with good friends!

OMG, TIN PLATES! I forgot to mention the secret roll-back to 1955 prices on a set of beautiful tin decorative holiday plates that, between 11 of us, we purchased 19 sets of!!

No, they decided since it was the last day to sell the tin plates for $10 a set without having to purchase anything else. When I met up with the group, I was told by MousePod that I HAD to go buy plates. Of course I complied. ;)

At Disneyana, I finally got The Imagineering Way along with The new Imagineering Workout and, because I had to spend $50 to get my 20% discount, I added on the Jason Surrell Disney Mountains book and the Cinderella storybook with pictures by Mary Blair.
