View Full Version : Office is a ghost town

There's maybe 20% of the employees here today. Eerie.

Your offices?

About half here, but that's normal for a Friday.

I don't know yet. The place doesn't normally fill up until about 10 a.m. anyway.

We have a large population of Hindi contractors so I'm sure they're around but most of them are on a different floor than me.

Snowflake

about half, but we're open on Monday, there will be maybe 2-3 employees in on Monday. Yes, I do work for Scrooge and Marley and I will be filing a patent application for a client on Monday, from home and charging OT for it, too (weekend).

We won't really be a ghost town until next week. We're insanely busy right now and only 1 or 2 people will be out today. Small office, btw.

But next week we're only here Wednesday - Friday, working with a skeleton crew. Should be fun!

€uroMeinke
12-21-2007, 10:23 AM
There were 5 of us this morning at 6:30 - in our Boiler room office that normally holds a couple hundred.

It's starting to fill up a bit, being the last day before the dark week, but most of the consultants go home on Fridays, so we may have already peaked for the day

Morrigoon
12-21-2007, 10:23 AM
Yeah, office was dark when I arrived... late. Usually there's always a person or two here ahead of me. I think I just heard someone arrive finally.

Hard to say here, I'm in a huge lab where everyone's spread out anyway. Judging by how fast the bagels and cream cheese went this morning and how full the parking lot was, we're probably still at 80% capacity. We have M-W off next week, I suspect Th. and Fri. are going to be very quiet days.

And now I'm wishing I had gone out for a big breakfast - my office is a freezer with the lack of warm boddies, my coffe is chilled after two sips, and the vending machine options depress me (though I now know another sorce of those Hostess Snowballs)

If only there were bacon - and some hash browns, mmmmm...

missing one person out for cataract surgery, but otherwise, the gang is all here.
Right now the rest of the group is over doing the White Elephant exchange. (I did not participate, I have no Christmas cheer this year)

We are working Saturday, then again on Wednesday and Thursday, so thats when it will be quiet.

However, the phones are very quiet.

Well, luckily the Gelato Cafe guy came buy and satisfied my needs with a chorizo burrito (damn you all), and also supplied me with a turkey & swiss for lunch, but I'm so hungry this morning I've already eaten half of it.

Here's where my day officially got weird:

As I'm leaning over the catering guy's cooler, who should walk up but someone I used to work with when I was doing insurance! Totally random. Even more random though, is that he was coming to OUR office to talk with one of our agents.

Of all the offices in Southern California, what are the chances?

My cubicle (built for 2) has all 6 of us in today. Cozy.

The rest of the floor is pretty vacant, to quote the Pistols.

We are closed next week until Jan. 2 and we have a lot of out-of-town contractors who live in various parts of the USA (and some from Canada, eh?) and they took off yesterday.

Lots to do here, unforch, and some are working this weekend.

Alex
12-21-2007, 11:56 AM
Looks like we're pretty much at standard attendance today. I'm sure people will start drifting out early, though.

We realized we forgot to account for the cat so we're delaying our departure up north by a day so the cat is only alone four days instead of five. So there's no reason for me to leave early if I don't want to.

Normally we have one of Lani's coworkers check in on the cat while we're away (we live literally across the street from her office) but we forgot that they're dark all next week. I sure do miss how we did it growing up when a two-week vacation just meant leaving a back window open and pouring a three gallon bowl of cat food somewhere the raccoons and possums weren't likely to smell it.

You know, if you're going to go away over Christmas and have 3 dogs and 2 cats, wouldn't you book your pet sitter more than one day before you leave? Especially if you've worked for the company previously and know how busy Christmas is?

I'm sorry, but I am already booked.

My office has been on half cylinders for a while now. We're going out of business in 10 days.

Heheh, for the first time ever, since they don't care anymore, they're giving us Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off. Oh, big of them. But I'll take it.

Defections have been occurring rather steadily for weeks. So even though we seem surprisingly fully staffed today ... that's half the staff of 2 months ago.

Bah, it's ultra depressing being here.

Pastries in a pile in our office. Now I want chorizo. It's the LoT Effect.

A couple of staff are already on vacation. Next week, though, is where you learn who can afford vacations and who needs to make up lost hours due to closures.

Myself, I'll be here on the 24th in the morning to bring in the bookdrop (someone has to do it, and I'd rather do it over Xmas than other holidays), and back at work on the 26th and 27th.

The whole month has been dead and I can't wait for the hustle and bustle of January 2nd.

I'm usually home on Fridays, so today is no exception. I'm taking Monday off, but Wednesday through Friday I'll be back at work.

What sucks about working on a college campus is that over the quarter break, all the services shut down. So when you are there working, there's nowhere to go to relieve the boredom.

Yes, I figured out you meant December

This year my company decided to give us Dec. 26th off instead of Dec. 31. So I had to burn a vacation day on the 31st. No biggie though.

Friday's are usually thinner around here, but today is more thin than usual. Our office is spread out in 2 suites on separate floors (2nd and 3rd floor). I work in the 3rd floor suite and right now I'm the only one here. The 2nd floor suite has the usual compliment of staff though.
