Even after only belonging for a short while, I still missed it here while I was busy!
So I've been through 3 weeks of training now, passed all my tests, and sometime this week should go from the training room into the main phone res center! And then there was the Christmas party...
ok, so picture this... You walk into the convention center and go up to the grand ballroom. In the hallway leading to the ballroom there are projectors projecting holograms of diamonds and 007 as well as a bubble making machine. When you get into the ballroom there are screens showing clips from various James Bond movies, only the ones that Sean Connery was in. There are really cool light decorations with little disco balls surrouned by mesh with LEDs that change from pink to red to purple and back again. Mass amounts of tables, all 10 tops and there were a bit over 1600 people there. Hot buffet, and here is what was on the menu:
Salad
Baby Spinach salad with Dried Cherries, Cherry Tomatoes
Toasted Walnuts and shaved Manchego Cheese
and
Arugula Salad with Roasted Beets and Blue Cheese
There was a choice of Cider Mustard Vinaigrette or Shallot Vinaigrette, which I didn't have because I don't like dressing. I had the Spinach salad.
Entrees
Grilled Filet of Salmon Served with Candied Fennel Cream
and
Raosted Prime Rib served with choice of Northwest Mushroom Ragout or Walla Walla Onion Marmalede. I had this and tried both the Ragout and the Marmalede and they were both to die for!
Accompaniments
Grilled Asparagus with Sweet Butter
Cavatappi (think fancy macaroni here) with Mushroom Sauce
Rosemary Roasted Potatoes (little red jacket potatoes and oh yummy!)
Rolls and Butter
Desserts
Martini Olive Cake (much better than you would think from the name)
Lemon Cream Tart (I had about 4 of these, total yum)
French Silk Square with Gold Luster Dust... yes, there really was gold dust on these, but I didn't really care for them... I'm guessing it was some sort of chocolate pudding/cream cheese type thing on a pie crust base with a whipped cream with chocolate shaving frosting and the gold dust.
Mostly it was the texture I didn't like, but I still ate the whole thing.

There were over 1600 people there! I couldn't find anyone that I knew, including the two trainers or anyone in my class, but I did meet some very nice folks from a couple of the departments I'd like to switch to when I've been there long enough and made nice nice with them for quite a while.
Awards and grand prize give aways were next, when they got to the prizes the VP of the company asked for a stage hand to help, and TA DAH!, there was Sean Connery. Most of us didn't think it was really him at first but it was, and I got to shake hands with him and he told me I was looking lovely!
Blackjack and roulette in the Casino Royale, and the Karaoke Lounge and DJ dancing in the part of the ballroom that wasn't taken up by the tables. There was also a photographer taking pictures for purchase, I didn't do that, but there were many candid pictures that I think I may be in, and if so, I will post one so you guys can see how damn good I looked!
I left around 10 because my ankle was getting pretty freaking sore at that point and plus even though everyone was nice and friendly, the crowd was starting to get on my nerves.
I'm still on a total high from the whole thing!

Who are you?

Welcome back. Congrats on completing training and good luck on the new employment.

I am odd man out on the party by not being enthused by it. Having DJ'd many of these over the years, the thought of going another company Christmas party makes my skin crawl.

I used to produce big company events similar to yours, but I never had Sean Connery show up! Damn.

Welcome back!!!!

It was! Black tie optional even. It was a lot of fun seeing all those dressed up people, and it was also fun getting to wear clothes that I hardly ever get to wear!
