NOT.

Mom sells 19 y/o son's car after finding booze in it. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080109/ap_on_fe_st/odd_car_ad;_ylt=Aqgn8WDy3oHa_Dhn74aPTS.s0NUE)

He may be an adult but it sounds like mom and dad gave him the car with only 2 rules. One of which he broke.

I like it.

I wouldn't have liked it if I was him, but I am glad to see that "personal responsibility" is alive and well.

Hehe - I would do it. And the "it wasn't mine" excuse wouldn't fly with me either.

I love this story! She made the right decision to stick with her policy.

Plus, the blaming it on the "friend" is the oldest excuse in the teenage book. I wouldn't believe him.

Even if it was the friend. You're responsible for what's in your vehicle.

You know what would be the best conclusion to this story ever?

If next Monday her son is riding the bus to work and this mad homeless guy boards, decides he doesn't like the look of her son and then beats him to death while the other passengers look on, applauding and shouting how he deserved it for being such a bad son.

Then go back to mom and see if she is willing to stand by her good parenting skills that killed her son!

You mean intsead of visiting her son in prison after he killed some kid in a crosswalk while driving drunk?

Does having alcohol in the car mean he was driving under the influence? Maybe, but maybe it was just where he stashed it for a party later, and he planned to stay over where he was drinking. The fact is he is under age. It's a tough disicion, but I had to kick my son out of the house at 18 for the same kind of thing. He's starting to realize what it means to be a responsible adult now. Of course regular drug testing helps to! ;)

I'd feel safer with the mad homeless dude on the bus than Alex ;)

Alex,

Care to elaborate on what prompted that?

Alex,

Care to elaborate on what prompted that?I took it simply as an absurd aside, not meant in a serious sociopolitical statement.

It made me laugh,

Well, maybe just chortle, but I cannot recall for certain.

I thought the bum killed her son?

I thought the bum killed her son?

That's the Twilight Zone twist to the story. The homeless man is her long-lost first son.

And bum is such a horrible word. Please use "hobo" in the future.

:p

The fact this is a "news story" is the real tragedy. Sure, blog it, but on Yahoo News?

NEWSFLASH! TEENAGE GIRL SUZIE HAD HER CELLPHONE SOLD BY PARENTS AFTER CAUGHT SKIPPING CLASSES! LITTLE TOMMY HAD HIS BEDROOM INTERNET CONNECTION TAKEN AWAY WHEN IT WAS REVEALED HE WASN'T DOING HIS CHORES! THERE'S PARENTING GOING ON!!!

If parenting is newsworthy, then WTF is going on with kids today?

I commend her, but I'm sad that responsible parenting is apparently now rare enough to warrant news articles and television appearances.
