My iPod is about 2 years old, the click wheel is very fussy and mostly not responsive. I do not have a service contract on it, any idea what Apple would charge for a repair or should I just bag it and buy another MP3 player?
For the record, it's a 60Gb, white, video iPod.

Chances are, by "repair" they mean "replace" and it would probably be less than a new one. So you'd need to as yourself if you want a new toy or would be happy with the same version of the toy you have for less fundage.
I've sold several completely broken iPods on eBay before. I clearly state that the iPod is broken - and have gotten around $50 each for them. People buy them for parts.

I'm with BTD on this one. Plus the new ones are pretty. Really pretty.

And now you can get a 160 GB iPod (http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/). That's a lot of music!
(Yes, I know that this is designed with video in mind)

i have one with a broken screen... like 3-4 years old now. Should i just turn it in for the credit and upgrade or attempt to get the screen fixed?

That might just be large enough to hold my music collection - maybe the next generation will be big enough for me to start adding video

Sheesh, I did not realize the prices of iPods had gone down. Hell, I will get a new one and sell the old one to someone for parts.
Thanks for the sage advice!

BtD, just wanted to revive this to say thanks for the suggestion of offloading the dead iPod on ebay. Clearly marked as broken, it still sold for a fair sum.

Not even a $99 iPhone would make me buy ANYTHING at Walmart.

$99 iPhone coming to WalMart.Maybe not, depending on who you listen to.
From The Street (http://www.thestreet.com/story/10452034/1/apple-iphone-may-land-at-wal-mart.html?puc=googlefi&cm_ven=GOOGLEFI&cm_cat=FREE&cm_ite=NA)
Apple is reportedly opening up another front in its smartphone war by teaming up with Wal-Mart for the holiday season, although rumors of a $99 iPhone may be wide of the mark. From Business Week (http://www.businessweek.com/technology/ByteOfTheApple/blog/archives/2008/12/iphone_at_walma.html):
iPhone At Walmart? Yes. At $99? Unlikely.
Why bother with a 4GB iPhone in the first place? Sure you can get the price down from the $199 starting price on the 8 GB model, but you can’t fit much in the way of media and applications on a 4 GB phone.
You might argue that Apple might like the opportunity to get the iPhone into Walmart, but remember, Apple is a premium brand, and isn’t exactly the sort of company that would compromise that cachet, even for so big a retail partner as Walmart.
Analyst Maynard J. Um, writing in a research note for UBS issued this morning, says a $99 iPhone would be “atypical of Apple’s premium brand strategy ($149 seems more logical if a 4GB model were introduced). More likely is a scenario in which select Wal-Mart (& possibly Sam’s Clubs) are simply added as further iPhone distribution points (like the Best Buy announcement).” Additionally he says a 4GB would likely cannibalize sales of the 8 GB and 16 GB models.
There are many more credible sources saying no, so I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Also, I agree that the 4BG iPhone would be kinda worthless.
