Oh my god Not Afraid, I purchased extra tickets and engraved them in gold just for you, because I know how much Mel Brooks touches you in your laughing place. I should arrange a meet-and-greet afterwards so you can tell him IN PERSON how much he has changed the course of your eternal soul.
[/sarcasm off]
Tho YF is my favorite Mel movie, I think the Spaceballs Saturday sounds best as a double feature. Where IS the Aero, in Santa Monica? I forget.
Nausicaa on the big screen would be cool though too, and NA-friendly.

Yes, the Ghibli is NA-Friendly. The others, not so much. I don't even think I could FAKE pleasure in meeting him. Uh, I really love your.......um.....nice to meet you, Mel.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights is one of the worst movies ever made. Most of the others aren't as objectionable.

Damn! I want to go see the Spaceballs/Men in Tights feature, but I am stuck going to a 1-year-old's birthday party! :(
Gwy has a hockey game that night too, I'm kinda busy.
Do we know if the Ghibli movies are sub or dub?

I'm a pretty big Mel Brooks fan, but I've no desire to see any of those double features ... even if he's there to shake my hand. I think I've been overexposed to his stuff.
But, hmmm, double of Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro?? That's one sounds delicious. Will they be dubbed or Nipponese?

I presume dubbed - at least, the trailer that played in front of Laura and Advise and Consent last Friday was a dubbed version.
Me? I'm looking into the unlisted (by Bornieo, anyway) showing of Bunny Lake is Missing on Saturday. (ETA: that's at its sister theater, the Egyptian.)
Also, as of Friday, the Blazing Saddles/History screening with Mel's discussion was sold out, and it seemed Mel would only be introducing the Producers/12 Chairs double feature, and Life Stinks. (He would not be on hand for the others.)
I actually met Mel once (the production company I was interning at shared a bungalow with his company on the Fox lot). He was very nice, seemed genuinely pleased to meet folks, even slightly stammering recent college graduates. And the people who worked with him (the secretaries and such) loved him.

UGH! Sold out. Damnit. Well, I might try for the Silent Movie/ High Anxiety night.
I just read on Myspace that the NEw Bevery CInema is playing "Citizen Kane" and Magnificint Ambersons starting tonight thru saturday. I"ve never seen MA and would love to see both in the theatre. Plus they just did some work on New Bev and would like to see what they did...
Maybe friday...

Hmm. I just watched Bunny Lake is Missing. I hated Flight Plan with a fiery passion and Russell recommended Bunny as a way to wash away the memory of Flight Plan with a better film that plays around with a similar concept. But aside from the opening titles, the early scenes at the school, and Lawrence Olivier, who was fun and charming, the movie didn't stir me up much. I bet, in its time, it was quite a shocker.
