I got laid off today at work.
It happened about an hour ago.
I had a feeling it was coming.
Stupid f*cking writers.
I'm bummed but I'm also relieved in a way. 20 clients are a lot to take care of. There are a couple of winners that I am going to truly miss. Others... not so much.
My former boss: "If there's anything you need... feel free to use me as a reference... this is hard for me to do... [tears - that was a nice touch]..."
I'm okay, though.
I'm going to make some calls.
Something good is coming next. I can feel it.
:)

GAH! Well, it wasn't a surprise at least and, who knows, if the writers' strike ever gets resolved, maybe the company will come back to full strength soon. Meanwhile, you've got some great experience in your field of choice that will do you a lot of good. Hand in there.

I'm sorry to hear that, GC. I know you were doing a great job and that your talent was recognized - was it a "last in, first out" situation?
Blah. I don't know what else to say. Hang in there.

I guess that's it, mousepod. But I must admit, I couldn't give the best customer service spread so thin. I think it was a combination of both. I don't think my former boss knew how much I was doing.

BAH. And the strike is going to end in a couple of weeks. Bah and double bah.
Except for, of course, if this is what happened ... then something better is coming for you.
In the meanwhile, feel free to lean on me for anything. :iSm:

Sucks. I imagine they had to do what they had to do, but they'll probably be scrambling to gear back up when the strike resolves itself (I'm still betting it'll happen before the Oscars).
Good luck in whatever the next step turns out to be.

I'm sorry to hear this, but I KNOW that the next terrific thing is coming for you - the "doors and windows" adage may be trite but it always seems so true. Plus, this door may not be fully closed. The company valued you, and when it gets back on its feet, it will need you again. (That is, if somebody hasn't already filled up your dance card.)

One of the many things I love about you is your ability to see beyond the suckiness of now and the knowledge that better things are always ahead. It usually works out too, doesn't it? And it will for you, of that I have no doubt. In the meanwhile, go to DL and have fun!

I suck at getting to these threads while there's something new and interesting, or at least less redundant to say. (I'm sure most of us feel this way)
So, I will quote one of my favorite playwrights...

I do agree that it sucks that the writer's strike will soon end. It seems premature and really foolish of your company to do what it's doing.
And say hi to Thurston for me....

I have made a decision to not let this get me down.
I have been in this position before and lived.
I'm going to survive.
I have a supportive family, great friends and the will to press on.
I'm not licked.

Thanks for all the support, y'all. I feel like the luckiest guy on the planet to have such good friends as you.
Oh, and Strangler Lewis: isn't that a great song? Love it.

Mwahahahaha!
So, seeing that I wasn't rehired at this stupid place, I just came to grips (months ago) with the fact that they had fired me and used the Writer's Strike as an excuse.
So, today I ran into someone I used to work with. She says that everyone misses me and that they have hired 3 people in a row to take my position and none of them have worked out. All three said it was too stressful and that they thought they were being overworked.
Now, 7 months later, the position remains empty and all of my former clients are not so happy.
This may be sour grapes, but it sure feels good that they shot themselves in the foot by laying me off. And by not hiring me back, they pretty much f*cked themselves.
I usually don't gloat like this but... Gloat! Gloat! Gloat!
:D

That is a good feeling. My position at my old job was eliminated because they automated what I did. Except the automation process needed human intervention to prevent it from failing. As of a few months ago, it's completely automated, and it's still failing.
