I'd like to invite everybody to post something you like about yourself. There is no negativeness- no saying there is "nothing lovable or good" about oneself. Yes there is. There's at *least* one good quality. Post it here. :) Then find another one. Post that too.

The world beats us down enough. Time to focus on the good stuff. That's more fun.

Even though I'm pale as a ghost, the positive is that my skin is nowhere near as wrinkled as most people my age. (I kept my face slathered in sunblock even when young because I really didn't want freckles, and tanning was futile). I'm sort of shocked when I run into former classmates, and I've even had a few ask me if I had 'something done'. Payback for being melanin-challenged.:D

(Good thread, ABG!)

Oh, and my eyes are okay- I hated them when I was younger because they're so big, but I kinda like them now. Especially on Tori- she has my eyes but her dad's lashes, which are thick and dark.

Behind the specs, I like my eyes. My complexion is also lovely, so I am told. Like WB, once I knew better, I stayed clear of sun without sunblock. Those dividends are paying off nicely now.

Good thread A!

I like that I can still keep up with teenagers, athletics-wise. I tied Cat (a cross country champion) in a sit-up race not too long ago. Sure it was only to 25, but still.

Although you may not notice it I am often wearing a smile. It's somewhat tough to make it look like one I see in a picture or on TV but I am smiling just the same. When you see me in person I think you'll understand. It's hard to explain without a visual.

Can't wait to grease up my hair for tonight. I don't get to do it very often. Hopefully I'll get to do it again later this year at a swanking! :)

Well, it's not everyday i get a chance to go on .... so:

:iSm:

 hmm, i have really pretty eyes. i like em. they are the flavor of hazel that change color tremendously, and i think that's so cool.

 Well, i generally look (if the light's not too bright) a good 10-ish years younger than I really am. Oh, and I have a head of hair that is thick and, uh, "luxuriant" is the term, i believe.

:snap: And while i just don't have the genes to get all muscle-bound, i've got some good definition going pretty much everywhere ... from, wow, a couple of years of pretty steady (for me) working out.

Oh, and, well, no description of my attributes would be complete with the mention of my enormous schvonschtucer ... it really is rather alarming.

I have an ass that has been referred to as Glorious Maximus.

I haven't gained a pound since I finished puberty.

I love my hair color. Hairdressers always complement me on it. Every 6 months my mom accuses me of dying it. "Where'd you get those reddish highlights?"

I like my eyes and my hair color.

blueerica

I like the color of my eyes. Depending on what I wear, they sometimes take on a mustard yellow. The first time I'd heard it, I was shocked. It was a drunk guy at the bar I worked at who slurred it at me, but sure enough I went into the bathroom and that dress made my eyes look yellow. Been happy with them ever since.

Though some areas have been marred with skin issues, which I do a damn fine job of maintaining, I have very soft skin. Oddly enough, so does my boyfriend. :) Though I know he doesn't think he does.

I have never had braces. My teeth aren't absolutely perfectly straight, but they're pretty close and I think they give me a great smile.

Though I color my hair to hide the gray, and I've gone everywhere from purple streaks to my naturally reddish brown color, no matter what cut I get, my hair is easy to manage. Though my hair is wild, if I just let it do what it wants to do that day, it'll look just fine.

Though they are currently healing from some scarring, I like the shape of my calves. They're not fatty, just super muscular. So muscular that most zip-up boots won't fit... but muscular in such a way that lace up knee highs look way f*cking sexy on me.

I consistently weighed a LOT more than what my various sizes would even dictate, so it's not really fat, it's muscle... so I shouldn't get too down on myself. (On the other hand, it's the weight that's killing my knee right now.. :( )

And I know these aren't body image issues but:

I get along with just about everyone and I've made some fantastic friendships happen in my life, many of them right here.

I am really smart, even when I'm feeling super-stupid.

Definitely upper body. Broad shoulders with definition, especially since I've started regular exercise.

My calves. I've got soccer player legs and I think they look good.

I've been complimented on my lips.

Okay, that cracked me up. I have stayed away from this thread because I have nothing to list. But, heck, I still have holes and not lines and THAT is really something that makes me quite happy.

I like the color of my eyes. Hard to define the color but they can change color, with my mood, usually when I am sad {so that sucks, really, and, that they do change enough for people to notice...}.

I don't like that their sockets are now surrounded by lines and wrinkles....or that holding them up are these dark little bags....

Oh, wait, wetblanket....sorry....back on track....

I agree, LSPE has one of the best smiles out there. When she puts on a true smile, it's the kind of thing that lights up a room and makes just about everyone else smile. Similarly, she has some of the kindest eyes I've seen in my life.

For anyone who hasn't met LSPE in person, she seriously radiates the kindness and warmth of her personality. She cares, and you know it right off the bat.

Oh my goodness, you all! What lovely and kind things you're saying. It's so funny - and, iSm, this is what I was saying about needing to start Body Image thread Version the Third where we all say lovely things about each other - because the truth is, the little things that bother you may be just the things that other people like. For instance - I would never have said my smile, because to me, it's crooked with bad teeth that just won't stay on the white side of yellow. But it seems to be a hit among some people I really love, so maybe I'll value it more now that I know!

You know, the thing about a "positive body image" thread is that generally the sorts of people with ok-to-good opinions of themselves already will post, and those who are on the other end of the spectrum will just avoid it. It is interesting, though, to see what people like in themselves. Not in a "I can't believe that" sort of way or anything negative - but truly just an interesting thing to observe.

Well, since that other thread, a couple of people have made a point of telling me they like my nose.

But I'm not buying.

But that's just curmudgeonly me ... with certain body image issues that compliments have no effect on. Ah well.

Teehee, there have been two fairly recent occasions where Morrigoon registered the predictable ALARM ... and that tickled me. But, well, it was only in agreeance with one of my more positive body image issues.

I actually wanted to encourage those on the lower end of self-image to post; you're right that it usually is the middle- to good set that post. While that's great, I do want to draw everybody else in especially.

Even if it's something like the third fingernail on my left hand is perfect. Not to be ridiculous, but if it's hard to find something gorgeous, start with something small. At least to set up the pattern of remembering that we are wonderful.

Oh boy, this is a challenge. I drive myself (and others) nuts with my insanely critical, obsessive-compulsive self-image. I'm a perfectionist, and honey? I ain't perfect. It's a circus of flaws when I see my reflection!

I'm trying to embrace positivity when it comes to my self-image, and this thread is a nice opportunity to start.

What I like?

I like the way that I look when I wear nothing but a genuine, real smile.

I no longer wear make-up. For work, I apply a little concealer, Benetint, and clear lip balm and that's it! I wore a full face of make-up on Sunday night because I had a very special occasion that was formal, and it was the first time I had worn make-up in about 9 months!

I like that I no longer spend most of my time getting ready for life- I spend more time living it. My whole life has been endless energy spent on outside appearances. The price of acceptance. I thought nobody would like me if I was just "myself". The truth is, I didn't like myself. I didn't know who "myself" even was.

Those who truly love me or care about me don't focus on what I look like or what I wear (except for a certain appearance-obsessed family member who is hurtfully vocal while disapproving my new natural look). While I still am girly, I'm also a whole lot more. I'm spending time discovering me, and you just can't find that in a lipgloss wand. ;)
