He would not comment on what Disney had envisioned for the White Bay site, including whether it was for a Disneyland theme park, a Disney resort or some other venture.

The Government has established the Bays Precinct Taskforce to formulate a development strategy for White Bay, Glebe Island, Blackwattle Bay and Rozelle Bay.

Details are expected to be released when the sub-regional strategy for Sydney's inner west goes on display this year.

The executive director of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce, Patricia Forsythe, said a Disneyland at White Bay would be a wonderful opportunity for Sydney. "It is a spectacular site worthy of an iconic development," she said.

She said a world-class arts facility would also be suitable.
The secretary of the White Bay Precinct Committee, Christina Ritchie, said locals must have a say on the site's development. She could not comment on the Disney discussion without more detail.

Oh Krikey, why not replace every 7-11 with a small disneyland while they're at it.

Not to parade rain, but sheesh.

The article says that talks have already been terminated so I don't think there's much there. I can tell you from my years getting the random mail for MousePlanet that not a week goes by without some story somewhere is reporting that Disney is sniffing around some piece of property and therefore must be planning to build Disneyland Houston/Dubai/Krakow/Johannesburg/etc.

I doubt they'd build in Syndey since I think it would be too much competition for DLHK, but a big DVC resort would be more likely since they're looking to expand in that area.

But Disney is always buying properties all over the world with nothing Disney related getting built there.

Personally, I would have thought Hong Kong and Tokyo too close, so now I'm all bets are off as far as Franchise Territory is concerned.

Maybe it was part of the contract that any Disneyland built so close to Tokyo had to competely suck.

Aren't the Aussies as generally pissed at all things American as the rest of the world seems to be (Thank you Mr. Bush)?

Would the mouse really be welcome in Sydney? Traffic, pollution, dilution of culture, etc...

Perhaps Disney is just looking to build a cruise line terminal?

Yes, I'd say that Tokyo and Hong are too close to each other. But Japan pretty much provides its gate from within country so they directly compete with Hong Kong less than I imagine Sydney and Hong Kong would compete with each other (and Sydney is twice as far from Hong Kong as Tokyo is) for the wealthy Southeast Asian tourist market.

Keep in mind that all of Australia has fewer people than Southern California so a park there would have to rely on intenrational tourism much more than TDL does with six times the domestic population.

Aww, I was all excited for Lash. We would have totally had one hell of a swanking at Disneyland Australia. If it ever happens, we're so there.

In Google earth, it looks like the entire parcel they are talking about would fit inside the berm at Disneyland.

What? Is it about the Patriots? What have you heard?

I will say that I'd love for there to be a DVC resort in Australia. Our frequent travel partners are members and while Disney resorts aren't my first choice for international travel, essentially free boarding trumps a lot of other considerations.

I still think we should have an Australia swanking - I've been wanting to go back to Sydney since 1994, and we could always head to the Gold Coast if you want to see a nice theme park in Australia.

I still hold to my dream that one day a DL Theme park will be built in Australia.

...but I'd settle for a DVC or Cruise-line port too.

Matt: Which do you consider the nicer... Movieworld or Dreamworld ?

...and for those QLD themepark swankings, my timeshare accommodation sleeps 6. Just sayin'.

Terminal maybe, but the only thing we dislike really about the USA is about to leave office soon.

Bring on the Theme Parks. :snap:

The only problem with a swanking in Australia is that I don't think I'd ever leave.
