View Full Version : A LoT of Appreciation

I really appreciate the support that we give each other here. Having a place where we can share the good times and the bad times with friends that actually care and will often times help has meant the world to me, as I know it has for so many others here.
Though some have been here (and sometimes there) longer than others of us here, just watching this board over the past few years has been a lesson in what a real community means, especially in this day and age.
So, I just wanted to take a moment out and put out a blanket thank you to everyone here, for helping to foster one of the swankiest digs around. It's not always perfect, but goddamn it's great.

Yep!
In a similar vein, we have been watching Big Love on HBO (http://www.hbo.com/biglove/). It is a story of a polygamist family lead by Bill Paxton. Great cast and pretty decent writing. We have been fascinated watching this, not because we are interested in polygamy per se, but the dynamic of the extended family is fascinating and interesting. I keep thinking of the LoT commune and how it would (could) actually function with this group.
The show also features Harry Dean Stanton and Chloë Sevigny. And Ginnifer Goodwin (who plays Margene) is a hottie!

I was thinking along the same lines yesterday, BE. Reading through the posts that ran the gamut from asbestos, green beer and grief it struck me what a great community we've become, and that no matter what our disagreements may be we are always there for each other- like a family should be.
Now, who wants to volunteer for GD's asbestos abatement team?

It really can't be said enough how awesome y'all are. You give a good name to elitism and cliquishness.

I'm not sure what that would involve but I'm in. Anything for GD or any one of ya. I'll do anything for you guys...except jump off of a building, sever my leg on purpose, or eat one of those poisonous blowfish. Other than those really dangerous, life threatening things I'm in!

In a similar vein, we have been watching Big Love on HBO (http://www.hbo.com/biglove/).Ken and I love that show! We've been hooked since the first episode. :snap: And, I totally love the community family it portrays, even though we wouldn't personally become polygamists (one husband is enough to put up with, thankyouverymuch ;) ).
I feel the same way about LoT. It's so much more than a "community", and for that, I am thankful. Not only do we all support each other, even when our views differ, but I can be myself here without worrying about "image" or other group dynamic crap. I especially like the fact that we respect each other as individuals and aren't expected to invite a ton of people to any outing, nor be expected to participate in outings if we don't feel like it. I also like how we can share stories and photos of things that not everyone was invited to without anyone throwing fits. It's a breath of fresh air. :)
The support and understanding that we have had over the last few weeks is something that Ken and I will never forget, and my family has been very grateful as well, even though they don't know most of you. It makes me proud to be amongst such a phenomenal and real group of people. :snap:

Gah! I need to learn to add winkies and smilies to my posts more often. Just noticed this was the second time yesterday my humor was missed. Or maybe I'm just not all that funny; it's hard to say, really...

Excuse me, but I think I have the trademark on the phrase "my humor was missed". I can certainly point to a great deal of prior art in my favor.
So you may continue to use the phrase but do be aware that each use published on a public forum will encure a licencing fee equal to one pound of bacon.

^^^ what she said!
Thanks BE for this thread. in good times and not so good, the LoT has been here for me. i will always be grateful.
"work" just did a 2 set tribute DVD about me compiling nearly 5 decades of reflections and there is a section devoted to a special experience. it features KB, Gus Gus, NA, that guy, DP, GD and CP. it is called "Fond Memories of the Past".
it would be cool to have a LoT screening. though scheduling it would be tough.

I think it's also hitting me that as of Monday, I'll likely be less of a presence on the boards. Who knows, but I know I'll miss it.
