View Full Version : Today's the Day

I've been b*tching about it for weeks, but today's the day. I'm cutting it all off! (My hair, that is)

My plan is to go short.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Me now (for reference, although it's not much of a "before" picture since you can't see how long my hair is)

(oh, and that's the new baby nephew with me in the pic, btw)

ohhh...hair!

good lord woman....I pop the thread open and theres a baby there...with you!

my first thought..."wow, I must have missed a really important post somewhere!"

my 2nd thought (after actually reading your post), good for you! you'll be glad come Camp Swank days...or pretty much any day where the temp is over about 80*F

dig up a really good 'before' pic to go with the 'after'...

Im thinking something kinda punk.

Do you have any short hair pics from before? I thought you had it layer-cut a while back the last time you lopped it all off which looked cute.

You mean this?

I'm actually thinking of going shorter

Deebs
03-26-2008, 03:12 PM
Wow, you're thinking of going even shorter than that? ^ Brave! I hide behind my hair, I guess. Long hair is a PITA in the hot weather though.

I like GC's idea of a bob. Never goes out of style, always looks good.

Go as short as you can go where you can still do things with it you are comfortable with.

For me, I'll never go shorter than a length that I can toss into a pony tail.

Shorter than that? You mean full-on lesbi-do? Or like an Amelie haircut? Not sure if I can picture that, hmmmmm

First off, lovely pic of you and the kid. You look very, very pretty.

Second, I have had long hair and I have had very short hair. And I've had the best and worst of both over the years. Some awful short cuts. And some that pleased me greatly, like the one I'm currently sporting. There is, unfortunately, that fine line between cute short girl cut and "well, that might be a nice haircut, on a boy, or my lesbian aunt."

But fear not, for hair grows back.

You've got lovely long hair, and I also really liked the bob. For summer, if you do go with a bob again, I'd make a point of telling the hairdresser that you want to make sure it's cut in a way that will also look cute pinned back, because bobbed hair sticking to the side of your face during the sticky summer months (especially if bangs are involved) is something awful.

If you trust your hairdresser over your instinct, I'd ask for their opinion regarding what short cut may best suit the shape of your face.

Good luck, C.

I once did a short wedge cut, which looked like a bob that ended at the earlobes, and with a loose perm, it looked fantastic all the time, and was virtually maintenance-free. It's the only short 'do on me that I've ever loved. I think it would look fantastic on you. :)

however if you indeed do decide to follow this.....finish it.

That sounds kind of like one of the 'dos I'm considering. I want fullness on top, but I want it in one of those cute businesswoman/soccer mom looks, if that makes any sense.

A good hair stylist will take a look at the shape of your face, the texture and type of your hair, ask you some questions about your preferred method of care and give you a fantastic cut. But, you need a good stylist to start with.

Now that I look back at that picture (from '99), I'm half tempted to do that again.

Dammit, Goonie - you're a bad influence to me growing my hair out again. :p

Heheh, I've already got Sohrshah chopping with me. I don't mean to be a bad influence, honest!

When I went to law school at Hastings, I often got my hair cut in the Tenderloin at a place that charged $5 or $6 per. Every time I got in the chair, this one middle aged barber would look at me and say, "So, military cut?" I would have to tell him no.

I don't know why he asked me that. There wasn't much in my bearing that cried out "military." Indeed, there wasn't much in the neighborhood that cried out "military" apart from, perhaps, the homeless veterans, none of whom were on active duty.

Maybe it was code for something.

The good part, though, was that he used hot shaving cream and a straight razor on the back of the neck and around the ears. That alone was worth $5.

I think a layered bob, or even a layered asymmetrical bob would look great. I really like the ones where you piece out the ends in a tousled manner- it looks very up to date and wears well in most types of weather. Keep away from the severe bob, though- there aren't many people that look good in that particular style. I don't know how thick your hair is, but if you have the ends razored out it really softens the overall style.

I can't follow the cut your hair short trend. If I go any shorter, I'll be Britney Spears after a nervous breakdown.

In fact, when I was getting my hair shorn yesterday, I was so tempted to go bald. Just to see what it would look like and to see how it would grow back. But my head's too big already. Being bald would only accentuate the Ray Romano-esque size of my huge cranium.

Very cute Cindy. I could never pull that short off nor do i want to go shorter. I just had an inch trimmed off of my hair and this is the shortest i would consider. As long as i can put it in a ponytail is short enough for me. Even with thicker than thick hair when it's hot i still wear it up 90% of the time anyways.

I like the new look and think how much cooler it will be in the summer. You'll save on shampoo and time washing it too.

That's the worst part about long hair is the time it takes to do anything with it.
