Today, I had a frank discussion with my landlady about how I will be breaking the lease at my apartment and would be moving out in about 2 weeks.

Expecting a hem and haw session about how I can't do that, you signed a lease, etc, I got something much, much better.

My landlady is a full-time property manager and a part-time worker at a spa. As one of the perks of the job, she gets to invite guests for a visit to her spa. Seeing that I was quite stressed and not in the best shape emotionally, she took me to the spa for an 80 minute visit.

It was my first time to a spa and it was lovely.

While my landlady got her 80 minute massage, I got to visit the men's spa and did the following:

1. Took a loooong shower. It was one of those showers that had a waterfall-type shower head. I really felt like I was bathing beneath a heated waterfall.
2. Sat in 2 different Jacuzzis. One was 105 degrees and the other was 99. Both were great.
3. Used the dry sauna. I sat in there for 5 minutes and couldn't take any more. I got claustrophobia.
4. Used the steam room. Very nice. Sat with four naked men...
5. Took a 2nd loong shower. This time with a different setting and colder water...
6. Had a shave and had my hair done. They had free shaving lotion, razors, hair gel and everything. And not just any old stuff, the expensive stuff...

I met a nice gentleman who says he goes to the spa everyday. He poured me a drink and gave me a cold towel while we sat in the Jacuzzi. (And, no, nothing else happened. He was a nice, older gentleman.)

Basically the way this spa worked is that you don't have to bring anything with you. They supply it all. Lush bathrobes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bath salts, refreshments, fruit, bath slippers, everything!

After it was over, I felt great. It was so very wonderful. I recommend it to everyone to do. Treat yourself.

Best of all, she's going to let me out of my lease. I move out on the 15th.

 You had the best landlady ever.

I do love that spa water, with the lemon and cucumber slices floating in the cooler. The last one I went to had a mentholated cooling mist room. Ahhhh.

Even better than going to the spa is going with friends. That would be an expensive swanking...but oh, how swank it is!

So, you're relaxed and I'm singing a Frankie Goes to Hollywood song. Thanks. ;)

There was in fact spa water there. It was a pitcher with lemons, melons and mint in it. It was very good. There was a gent that walked around hydrating everyone. It was very cool. Once I have a job and a bit of money saved up, I will get a facial at that spa and maybe a massage.

I've never been to a spa before. I can now safely say that it is a must-do at least once, right?

What a great landlady! She treated you at the spa and let you out of the lease. Congratulations! :)

She is a really cool person.
She is sad to see me go.
She also has a friend she is trying to set me up with. He is a manager at Starbucks.

Yes, but is he cute? If yes then maybe she will still set you up!

By the way, you make a spa day sound wondeful.

He is a manager at Starbucks.
:)

One thing I have noticed about Starbucks (and this was even true when I worked for them back from 1995-1998, at about 6-7 different locations): Every Starbucks manager is either gay or female. Seriously.

Did they have their hands in the tip jar?

Not sure if he's cute. But I'm going to find out. ;)

It really was a wonderful experience. I almost felt sort of guilty for being there at first. You know, like I didn't deserve it. I've bought spa treatments for friends before, but never did it myself... But after awhile I was thinking, why not me?

I have a certain roommate that still hasn't used his spa certificate from Christmakkah.

GC, of course you deserve to be at the spa!!! It sounds fabulous. I need to do that one of these days. I've done a partial spa thing, but without the personal treatment things- facial, massage, that stuff.
