I just bought an Epson photo stylus RX680. It's great, but it does not come bundled with an OCR software.

Anyone got any suggestions for some freeware? I looked at one place, and all the freeware is actually only 14 day trial of very expensive software that I do not need.

I still have the HP software on my PC, but I cannot get it to recognize the scanner.

I am lazy and there are pages and pages of stuff I do not want to key in by hand (if I can avoid it).

Can't vouch for quality, but these are all free: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tag=fil&qt=ocr&sort=&operatingSystems=&licenseType=49&fileSize=&ca=

Check the settings on the scanner: the HP scanner we have delineates between whether you want to scan text as text (as opposed to just a graphic).

If you know anyone (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/member.php?u=34)with Acrobat (not just reader, but Acrobat Standard or Professional), that has OCR built in and can capture text in a PDF document pretty reliably.

With the exception of the expensive, high end OCR programs, they are not 100% accurate. ALL scanned text should be proofread for accuracy.
