View Full Version : Rickrolling an entire stadium!!

For those of you who don't know what "Rickrolling" is, look it up.
For those of you who do know (or have just looked it up), imagine an entire stadium full of Mets fans being Rickrolled!
I have no idea if this will actually work. For all I know the Mets organization is going to completely ignore this voting and just pick something, but I'm willing to give it a try. They have a poll up on their website where the fans can vote for what song will be played during the 8th inning of every game this season for a sing-a-long. Well, the link to the survey was posted on Digg and whoever posted it is hoping enough people will write in "Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley".
This amuses me far more than it should.
Here's the link (http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/nym/fan_forum/singalong_vote_form.jsp) if you want to help the cause. It requires entry of name/email/phone number. I just put in bogus info.
Again, who knows if this will amount to anything, but it's pretty minimal effort for a possible awesome payoff.

Wikipedia article (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU) about the long and storied history of rickrolling. It's quite fascinating actually. Thanks for turning me on to it, GD.
(Oh, and I voted... can't resist :))

Hmm. The link didn't work.
Here's the correct link to the site. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI)
Man, I don't know that I have ever been so sick of an internet meme that I haven't actually experienced myself.
It reminds me of the Macarena. I college friend and I happened to be on a cross country trip the summer that Macarena hit and we visited a lot of baseball stadiums on the way. It was amazing how quickly that spread. The first game they played it and people were like "what the **** is this?" By the end of the trip three weeks later sports stadiums were touting having had the largest group Macarena in the world.
That one annoyed me too.

According to Buzz Out Loud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5EhwZH-gGI) this meme officially jumped the shark when Youtube rickrolled everybody on April Fools Day.
But I can't really get tired of this one. I actually like the song. So the more I hear it the better. It's much much MUCH better than goatse, bathtub girl, or two girls one cup.

This has potential to be the funniest thing ever. of course, if the stadium knows it is going to be rickrolled it kind of loses it's humor. Hmmmm. I wonder if I could get this song in the Seattle Mariner's song rotation.

Thank you! What's funny is that I had never heard of it before, and I saw that video and then saw this thread right after. How could I not post it? ;)
I love the part at the end when Animal tells the audiance to shut up, while the music and singing continues with out them, then he runs back to the drums and carries on. :)

I'll bet you could get JJ to include it as his music - once he gets off the DL.

It worked! So far MLB has been successful in pulling the video down, but at tonight's home opener at Shea Stadium, Never Gonna Give You Up played in the 8th inning.
To a chorus of boos from the crowd.
Though, as I suspected, the organization is playing it's trump card, pointing to wording in the rules of the online poll that says voters would only "help determine" the song. They will be playing the 6 finalists (the 5 actual options + tonight's playing of NGGYU) and select the winner based on in-stadium reaction. Judging by the reports of tonight's reaction, I'm guess this is the only night it'll play (unless some expert booers start buying large blocks of tickets).
Amused I am.

I guess I can accept this "Vote for the Worst" sabotage here since in my view, with the exception of the seventh inning stretch, the only things people should be doing between innings at baseball games are buying refreshments, urinating and cleaning up their scorecards.
Amen. If you need constant audio stimulation at a sporting event, go to an game.

Hey FEJ, why all the L7s? What does the L7 stand for any way? And why would you want to split this place????
Inquireing minds want to know.....
It means the opposite of sea moon.

Before 1337 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet), there was L7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_(slang)).
I think your mention of FEJ splitting was referring to his status, which doesn't say he's leaving, it's says he's living.
Also, you spelled inquiring wrong. :p

I think he's referring to the scrollover copy, which, for someone with negative mojo (L7, square) says something about "splitting this scene soon," meaning that they won't be around for long if they keep getting more bad mojo. (It was my assumption that Fej hacked that code so he got to keep the L7s instead of displaying his actual mojo.)

(It was my assumption that Fej hacked that code so he got to keep the L7s instead of displaying his actual mojo.)Actually, I think that is the actually symbol when one has net negative mojo and he just went in and gave himself a bucketload of negative mojo.
Cuz he can
But that is just my speculation.

Wait, I thought giving Fej neg rep for ever post made was the in thing to do. Are you saying it's not?

Actually, with his oft lengthy absences, I always thought it would be fun to start a positive mojo campaign for Fej to counteract the negative mojo. But that would require too much effort (going back to find old posts since one cannot give mojo to the same post twice) by too many people.
