View Full Version : So who's your final four?

I've got OK St beating Illinois in the Midwest.
I've got Wake Forest beating Georgia Tech in the West.
I've got UNC beating Kansas in the East.
I've got Kentucky beating Duke in the South.
OK St over Wake, UNC over Kentucky, UNC winning it all.
So who you got?

Ok, I finally finished filling out my bracket.
Final Four:
Illinois
Gonzaga (I'm second guessing myself on that one, but I think I'll stick with it, I had them beating Georgia Tech the previous round)
North Carolina
Syracuse

I cam close to going with the 'Cuse, but Duke has Redick, and if you are not in his face the moment he touches the ball he will kill you with the three. Most incredible shooter I have ever seen. The 2-3 zone is susceptable to the three, and with how well Duke screens the zone, I think they win it.

Okay......finally have mine done at the buzzer. I've been avoiding all contact/talk of March Madness until I could sit down and concentrate all by myself, with no husband over the shoulder. I always beat him.....always. For eleven years. But he always thinks he can "help" me. Dork.
I have.....
Illinois over OK State
Wake over Louisville
UNC over Kansas
Duke over Kentucky
UNC over Illinois in the final
MickeyD....Gonzaga in the Finals? What are you, some kind of Catholic? ;)
My husband has a similar looking thing going, but he has Georgia Tech going to the Final Four, then Illinois beating UNC in the F2.
Tomorrow, I need.......
Illinois
Texas
Alabama
Boston
LSU
Arizona (grumblegrumble)
Washington
Pitt
Texas Tech
Gonzaga
West VA
Wake
UTAH
OK
Cincinnatti
Kentucky
The only one I'm very nervous about is Pitt/Pacific....it would put my bracket in really good shape if Pitt won. Almost everyone else in our pool has Pacific going for an additional few games......

Oklahoma St. over Illinois
Louisville over Gonzaga
UCONN over Florida (yes, Florida will beat North Carolina)
Duke over Kentucky
OK St. over Louisville
UCONN over Duke
OK St. over UCONN for the championship
I came close to picking Syracuse over Duke (and in fact I did pick the 'Cuse in one of the pools I'm in). I'm in 6 pools so there is some variation with my Final Four picks. The one constant I have is that Kansas won't make the Final Four.

I had Pitt upsetting WA in the next round. WA looked so bad I would suspect that Pacific could beat them. I hope so. Gotta give Pacific their props - their overall strength of schedule was so low I didn't think they could hang with the Big East.

Jr High girls ball is excruciatingly painful, I agree. High school gorls ball is too. I have a friend who claimed to know this - he said there was a statistic nationwide that someone had calculated with a masters thesis that a girls highschool basketball game, on average, has a stoppage of play every 7.4 seconds. If you watch and time it, that's about accurate.
I coach HS ball, and I love good D. There's some good D being played. It's also an issue of tempo control, though. The smaller schools can't complete athletically with the power houses, so they play a controlled game looking to keep it low scoring. It's easier to control the game to a slower tempo than it is to control it to a faster one.

We actually were high-fiving one another every time they showed that final 3-pointer in the Vermont game last night. Amazingly good stuff. Cool game.
The Kansas/Bucknell game, for some reason was a letdown. By the last five minutes, we decided Bucknell deserved to win it, so when they did, we just sat there beaming, even though it screwed me and screwed me bad. I couldn't get worked up over it. My brackets SUCK. Tomorrow I may redeem myself, but by then, it probably won't matter.
My husband has three big games going right now....I only care about Illinois at this point in time. And they have me nervous.

Man, what a game! I was jumping up and down, throwing stuff, cussing. Awesome game! I'm done for. With Wake out and most of my teams losing today (I only had Kentucky and Illinois wins today), it's looking pretty bad for me.
NC State and Wake always, and I mean ALWAYS screw me. But I was pretty satisfied with my Wake pick. Damn them Demon Deacons. Damn them to HELL.

Wow! Dude from West Virginia scored 19 points in the two overtimes. That game was so intense, even my kids drew battle lines. The youngest for West Virginia (Or, "West Vagina" as he insisted on yelling. As in, "Go West Vagina!!!" Will that kid ever give the anatomy talk a rest?), and the two older kids pulling for Wake.
My brackets are busted but it was fun. Now I can sit back and cheer on the Pac-10.

Guess I put my faith in the wrong ACC team - NC State over UConn!
Hey, uh, Claire - you're the one who loves NC State, right?
Claire
03-21-2005, 09:57 AM
God, I hate NC State. That's all I'll say about that. But I am sort of excited/nervous about a NC State/UNC match up at regionals. That would be cool for me, personally. Unless NC State beats UNC. Um, not cool.
UNC looked like champs this weekend. Awesome.
Duke made me nervous, but pulled their heads out. Louisville made me look like a genious. Apparently, I'm the only one that had them going to the Sweet 16.
Of my Sweet 16 picks, only 8 are alive. Illinois, OK State, Louisville, UNC, Villanova, Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky. Of my Elite 8, 6 are still in it--Illinois, OK State, Louisville, UNC, Duke, and Kentucky. And of my F-4, three are still in it, Illinois, UNC and Duke. So while the second round killed me (and everyone else) point-wise, I'm actually not doing as bad as I thought. I thought I was out. But so many locals picked Gonzaga and Pacific for the F-4, and others picked GA Tech or Wake as their F-2, that I'm in the same boat as them in that bracket! Only I still have Louisville alive. Whew. Does that make sense to anyone but me? :D I need WA to lose something fierce.
Okay, back to real life for a few days........
Claire

So this morning I found out I'm not dead in the water yet.....I'm tied for second place with someone else. Craziness. My husband is tied for third with 3-4 other people. There are two people tied for first, and they're just a point ahead of me. From here on out we all have vastly different picks, so it's anyone's game!! I'm actually better situated with 6 of my Elite Eight in the tournament. Most don't have that, and everyone is down at least one F-4.
I think a deciding factor for me will be the Louisville/WA game. I need the Louisville points. Everyone else is out of that bracket, and I'm the only one who can benefit from that game, period.
Pacific, Gonzaga and GA Tech screwed a bunch of people, as did the obvious Kansas, Connecticut, and Florida losses.
It's actually really interesting this year!!
Games are on here at 4 p.m. Can't wait. :)

I always figure if my brackets are completely screwed, most people have brackets that are completely screwed.
I just need Ok St and UNC to keep winning. The rest is pretty much fluff at this point, though a Louisville loss to WA (I gotta route for a Pac 10 team) helps me immensely in that it hurts everyone else. I had Wake beating GT and going to the final four. Not much chance of that now.

Scummy Pac 10 Huskies! They got absolutely spanked.
Watch - with my luck, AZ will be the Pac 10 team that plays great and they'll beat my Ok St, who I have in the championship game.

In WA we call it "Hawking it." And, just like the Seahawks, the Huskies hawked it.

If it helps...I'm rooting against Arizona! Not that I'm rooting for Ok St...I would REALLY like Texas Tech to be the only Big 12 team left...but Az...just can't root for them! Even if I do live in Tucson.

Those games could be two of the biggest meltdowns I've ever seen. Well, maybe not W Va, as Louisville just started to play, but for AZ to get outscored 17-3 in the last 3 minutes to go to OT had to be the biggest. And then I have no idea what their timeout was for with 11 seconds left - what a horrid shot to end the game. I don't fault the coaches - that was a kid that gacked and wanted to win it by himself - no idea how much time was on the clock, nothing. You've got to shoot with at least 5 on the clock to give yourself the chance for the O board, which they got, but there was no time left. That guy will be thinking about that for a long time.
Duh,

Craptacular call of the weekend #1:
The traveling call on Villanova at the end of the North Carolina game. If you're gonna make that call at crunch-time, then you better call traveling the other 20 times it happens per game.
Craptacular call of the weekend #2:
That amazing three point shot at the buzzer by Kentucky to send the game into overtime against Michigan St. should have been a potential game winning four point play. The foul was clear.
Both these calls, or more specifically, one bogus call and one bogus non-call, lead directly to teams being eliminated from the tourney. Unacceptable.

Agreed! It was funny listening to Billy Packer count the steps. He kept coming to three even though I kept counting two. Horrible call.
And yes, that kid was fouled on the three - I thought he had the four point play to win as well.
Good thought, Sac.

Okay, loved Louisville's win......hated Duke's loss....found myself cursing for four days, and my Final 2 picks are still in--UNC and Illinois, UNC to win it all, dammit.
There were some awesome games! I'm nervous about the UNC/Michigan State match-up because Michigan State is so freaking scrappy and UNC did not look like a championship team yesterday.
I had to miss the Kentucky/M State game yesterday.....stupid Easter ;) . But I caught all the other games.
My husband was rooting for Arizona over Illinois, even though he had Illinois winning it all. Ugh. Once a Pac-tard, always a Pac-tard!!!
Still kicking myself for picking Wake over Louisville. Stupid Wake.
And Duke, WTF??? Gotta love all the people loving them going down in flames though......

Soooo.....I'm still in it!!
Carolina has to win tomorrow night. If they do, I win our pool, with only one bracket turned in. If Illinois wins, another guy wins the whole thing (one of three brackets).
Fingers are crossed.....and I'm so excited to watch!!! We had to miss the Saturday night game due to our auction commitment that night, but someone went out to his car to listen to the game and came and gave me the results. I then blew it for other people who were taping the game at home.....but damn, I was SO excited!!!

Congrats to Claire! And Leo! (4th and beating your wife is indeed respectable!)
We missed almost all of the game...I forgot. My bad!
We clicked in with 2 minutes left...but it was good enough for me!
We were pulling for UNC! Just cause I thought Illinois was getting a little cocky. (not that they didn't have a right to ...losing one game all year...not too shabby!)
I'm kinda sad it's all over!
