Next Monday night, there'll be a member screening of the new Harmony Korine movie, Mr. Lonely.

From the writer of KIDS and the director of GUMMO, this new, very original film concerns a Michael Jackson impersonator who lives alone in Paris and performs on the streets to make ends meet. At a performance in a retirement home, Michael falls for a beautiful Marilyn Monroe look-alike who suggests he move to a commune of impersonators in the Scottish Highlands. At the seaside castle, Michael discovers everyone preparing for the commune's first-ever gala – Abe Lincoln, Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Stooges, the Queen, the Pope, Madonna, Buckwheat, Sammy Davis, Jr...and also Marilyn's daughter Shirley Temple and her possessive husband Charlie Chaplin. Meanwhile, a miracle is happening somewhere in a Latin American jungle. A Discussion will follow with director HARMONY KORINE. Reception following discussion sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Co. & Valerie Confections.

Kids and Gummo. That's endorsement enough for me to stay far away.

yeah, those movies were creepy.Change the first 'e' to an 'a' and the second 'e' to a 'p' and I'll agree (though to be fair I've only seen Kids in its entirety, Gummo I've only seen a clip or 2).

Love the synopsis, but I'm prepared to stay far away on the basis of Kids only, without ever having thankfully laid eyes on Gummo.

I strongly disliked the overrated Kids, and very much enjoyed the underrated Gummo. Interesting storytelling, editing, cinematography. It was beautiful to look at, and not just because Chloë Sevigny's breasts are amazing. Amazing!

Hmmm... I'm hearing a lot of nay towards this filmmaker, which I've never seen anything from, this might be my cuppa joe.

I RSVP'd for the screening. I thought KIDS was just fine, but enjoyed Gummo (mostly, there's some animal references that icked me out a bit). I find his audacity to be refreshing. He "directed" a Dogme movie called Julien Donkey-Boy after Gummo, which showed - dare I say it? - a level of emotional maturity that wasn't apparent in his previous films. I'm looking forward to this, his first feature of the millennium. Even if the film doesn't come through, I'm sure the Q&A will be entertaining.

I'd join you but I'm not a member. I know, I know...yet another reason. Have fun and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.
