Universal Studios Orlando's "The Simpsons Ride" has soft opened.

Only in Hollywood. Our Orlando Simpsons building is on much more solid footing. Not that I can afford to go check it out just yet. (Or, I could get a part time job there. yeah! That's the ticket!)

Actually, Lashbear, if you didn't realize, about half of the upper lot "Studio Center" at USH is built on top of a parking structure (All of the area T-2 is built on).

BTTF's building is actually on VERY solid footing, and you enter far above ground level, where the park meets the side of the building :)

I'll be hitting the Florida version on my June trip so I'm avoiding spoilers for the most part, but what's the general consunsus on the attraction: Bad, meh, OK, great?

I'll miss back to the future so I hope it's worth it.

Early reviews have been pretty positive - one good thing is that many of the ride's jokes are related to theme park going in general, so even people who aren't fond of/don't know the Simpsons are enjoying it.

The Krusty mouth reminds me of the room where I proposed to Heather - it's the Carousel Room of The House On The Rock in Wisconsin. There's a giant clown mouth door leading out of that room. It's the first door we went through as an engaged couple. Ah, memories.

The queue looks awful. Sorry, but I hate the idea that you can paint a bare warehouse with splashy colors, put up some "artwork" of cartoons and call that a themed environment.

What late in the game change to Krustyland?

I read online (so you know it's true) that the original plan was to use a theme based on Mr. Burns factory, the fish cannery I think, but Harry Shearer (aka Mr. Burns) refused to lend his voice to the project and so it was changed to Crustyland.

Sorry, but aside from the great Krusty Clown Face entrance, I saw nothing in the queue photos that indicated parody, and everything that smelt of typical six flags.

Epcot Center in its heyday made me so unhappy that I vacationed there 10 years in a row.

Paris is the suckiest town on earth.


I could go on ... but - jest or not - I'm pretty tired of the rep that I don't like anything. It's bullsh!t and based on nothing but the fact that I can rip a good hole into the many things I don't like.

Yes, I know your post was in jest. I have a great humor decoder. Nonetheless, and though it's all done in good spirits which I always admire, I just wanted to say that the curmudgeon rep is wearing a little thin.


I'm critical of things I don't like. People love to latch onto that for comedy. There's a lot less potentially funny when I gush about things. And, yeah, that's just the nature of comedy.

But I've been getting the feeling (perhaps undeserved) that the jokes have seeped into people's minds as reality. And sure, I am very critical and am quick to point out things I find shoddy, cheap, pathetic or (look away, Gemini Cricket) gay.

I'm just as quick to praise, extoll, laud, glorify and giggle helplessly like a little girl at the many, many, many things I love in this world.

But where's the humor in that???

You have to see the queue (and hear it, to some extent) in person.
I wouldn't compare it to Indy, but it's better than the last few queues Disney has executed at Disneyland/DCA (Nemo/Buzz/Monsters/Superstar Limo)...

I got to ride on May 2nd over in Orlando! My brief review below.


It was a fun ride that is extremely similar to Back to the Future. The que is very "cheep" as ISM said but it works in the atmosphere of the ride. The preshow is hysterical with alot of shots taken at theme parks. The que video that is show is real funny and takes from the show and has new stuff that explains why BTTF is not there anymore and it's now the Simpsons. The animation in the actual ride is not that great. Its all digital animation as apposed the traditional Simpson's animation. But it goes by so fast it's hard to even see. IMHO.

Excellent, Headliner and I should be able to catch this as well as Midway mania on our Florida trip next month.

Of course if your spoilered review says "It blows chunks" I will be a bit miffed but I'm still not going to look.

At least I'm assuming the Florida version will be open then...

Yeah, Florida's Simpsons is OPEN. There are ads on TV and its in the guidemap. It was down for a bit the morning I was there. I also rode Midway Mania but I will discuss that in my big WDW trip report!
