"You'll Love Coles" brand in Australia (supermarket's own brand) is getting huge now.

They've just released a Liverwurst which is out of this world. I can even taste a tiny hint of brandy in it !

Nummy !! Just had some on an english muffin for breakfast.

What's your favourite liver dish ?

Oh, you guys never had Pate ?

Melbourne has a large jewish community, and I first tried chopped liver there, and it was a very pleasant surprise !!

You don't have to eat the livers with some fava beans and a nice chianti, ya know.

I've had pate. Eew.

My favorite liver dish is fois gras, in all its evil fatty deliciousness.

Y'see Lashie, we 'Mericans don't like yer liver 'nless it comes pan-fried with onions.

Which is why we don't like liver.

Paté, on the other hand, or even liverwurst, is sufficiently disguised so that we may eat it at parties and feel super sophisticated. Any cheeses more exotic than cheddar or parmesan-in-a-can are also only enjoyed at parties so that we may fake impress each other.

Or, at least until your liver explodes. And hey, that's how they make it!

I do love liverwurst, though. I associate with my baby days. My Grandpappy sure loved that stuff.

The liver is the filter of the body. It removes all of the toxic substances, and then....you eat it? Why? ;)

Despite that I have been known on occasion to take a bite of Turkey or Chicken liver when I'm boiling the giblits for the gravey (like twice a year). And partake of Pate at a party (which has been only a hand full of times in my life). Other than that, considering I'm watching my cholesterol and there is no food higher in the stuff (and the above statement), I avoid it.

Which reminds me of a guy I used to work with. Kept geese in his basement so

he could jam a funnel down their gullets and pour in corn. When he had fattened their livers, he brought them upstairs and killed them in his bathtub.

He was French.

Well, the toxins don't stay in the liver..... :p

This is the reason why I prefer regular-sized livers, not Foie Gras.

Plus: as one who's had a heart-attack, I certainly wouldn't have liver every day (or even every week) but it's nice as a bear-treat occasionally !

In Georgetown by the canal there is a lovely French Bistro that makes fabulos Pate Campagne. Also splendid pastries.

I'm glad I'm not close enough to go there. Pate, for me, is a once in a while treat. Same goes for good Chopped Chicken Livers (Lash, remind me to take you to Max's Opera Cafe next time you are in SF, they have splendid Matzo Ball Soup [the size of softballs] and fabulous chopped chicken liver)

It's good to hear everyone is making this a once-in-while thing. My dad had a very large serving of chicken livers the night of his first heart attack. I don't think my mom has been able to serve it since...

I used to enjoy chicken liver and chopped liver. Until I realized what it was (the same time I realized tongue was actually tongue). While I'm sure Fois Gras is amazing, the whole concept of it makes me super sad. I hope those who enjoy it will enjoy some on my behalf.

So, am I wrong in thinking this thread will outrun the "Bacon Is Meat Candy" Thread ?

And no one has yet mentioned the liver scene in Portnoy's Complaint.

Wait. I just did. Consider it mentioned.

I have had foie gras once since arriving. That was enough for me. I didn't find it tasty enough to make up for the other issues I have with it. I'll stick to stinky cheeses.
