View Full Version : One more time...What's the screen name? or How do you say THAT?
Ponine
03-16-2005, 11:46 AM
I had to start this thread again... why?
Because this weekend a few things were made clear to me again:
1) we have new blood around these parts
2) Some of us, like me, dont have the easiest screen names
3) People are a tad too shy to ask how to say someone elses name.
So.. do you have a screen name that people might not understand? That they might not know how to pronounce?
Repeat the story here folks...
Me? I'm Ponine.
It's said Poe-knee-n Two sylables (Not Poe-nine)
Its short for Eponine also verbalized as above but with the Eh sound at the start.
Why is it said that way? No idea.. but thats how it is sang over and over again in Les Miserables.
Why is that my name? Short version. Its a character of unrequited love, and never ending devotion. Thats me at the very core.

Bar Top Dancer
Why? A few reasons. 1) I moved out of HB so I could no longer be HB Tigger Fan 2) I got tired of being HB Tigger Fan and 3) I found a new love, dancing on bars/tables/benches for fun. I'm really shy in person and this releases my inner-fun.
I'm thinking about becomming J. Rabbit.

That alone was a good enough reason to start this thread.. I didnt know of your personality switch.

<----I'm AllyOfTheDolls! Formerly Allysen1Derland & AllyKat.
I absolutely love the movie, Valley Of The Dolls. Thus, a screenname was born!
However, I've been going by just "Ally" ever since I began posting way back when. I have never, ever used my screenname. I'm not sure why. I think screennames are fun & I sometimes will unintentionally refer to someone in real life by their online moniker rather then their actual first name. It becomes an unconscious habit! :)
My new screenname should be, "I'mDyingToMeetPonineInPersonAndAmSoSadThatWeAlways MissEachOther!" :( That's a mouthful! So, I'll just tell Ponine mega snaps on this very cool Thread :snap: :snap: and I hope we get to meet each other soon! :)

I'm rather sick of signing up with Cadaverous Pallor. Didn't use it at MiceChat. I'm waiting for someone else to use it there and let other people think it's me. To that future person: Please, don't be an ass. :p
At Doombuggies.com's board they have a Cadaverous Pallor and a Ghoulish Delight. Both guys, in their 20's I think, unrelated to each other. Weirdness.
I figure, this will probably be the last Disney board I sign up with, so it's not a worry anyway. I do dig going by "CP" in person. Real names are so hard to remember - you don't see them in front of you over and over.
mousepod
03-16-2005, 12:59 PM
MousePod is my given name.
But seriously, I anticipated that I was going to do a bunch of these radio show thingies and would be bugging a bunch of message board people to get involved and I didn't want to always have to explain, "yeah, I'm Jesse... the MousePod guy... my screen name is OswaldRabbitEars" (or whatever)
I've lurked for so long under different names, but it's nice to have an ID... but you can call me Jesse.

As in, "You've just won the Super Bowl! What are you going to do now?"
Of course, I'll probably never win the Super Bowl, so,
"You've just washed the dishes! What are you going to do now?"
Or, "You've just baked 1500 ThinKrisps™! What are you going to do now?"
Or even, "You've just got to stop screwing around and get a real job if you want to keep living here! What are you going to do now?"
I'm going to Disneyland! Toot!

MoonLiner, pronounced "Moon Liner" not "Luxury Yatch".
I signed onto my first Disney themed board under the very creative "Steve0." Note that's Steve "Zero" not "Oh". I was just doing research for a WDW trip and not really planning to stay but you all dragged me in. When it came time to select a real screen name, I quickly went with MoonLiner. My Grandfather was a contract engineer to Disney back in the 50's and was the person who designed the original Moon Liner that stood in the park. I still have one of the hand carved wooden models he made of it.

Well, when I signed up to MP (My first board), I spent a lot of time choosing a picture but didn't choose a screen name. So, at the last minute, I had to come up with a name to go with the avatar above. So, I thought......."Who'se afraid of the Big Bad Worlf?" Me and Piggy aren't. we're Not Afraid.
Anyways, who knew how true that was in real life. I sure didn't realize it.
It's the one snap decision I can think of that I am STILL happy with.
BTW, that's me at 3 years old in 1965.

My screen name is pronounced "ZER-bee-ak MAIN-ee-ak". I'm not sure why I have that name. It may have something to do with an overwhelming, head-over-heels crush I have on a certain basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but that's just speculation.

Chernabog
03-16-2005, 01:36 PM
Chernabog.
CHUR-na-BOG. Also Cherny, Chernajoe, Cherna, Chernadog, Chernaboggled, and Cher. Do you buhhhhleve in life after love? Sometimes Churro-Bob, but only Isaac gets to call me that. Obviously from the demon in Fantasia (Night on Bald Mountain sequence). However, Chernabog is also Russian for Dark God or Black God and has lots of other connotations. I used the Disney reference, duh.
My previous nickname was hyperboy or some variation thereof but I figured I needed to drop the boy moniker once I hit 26, lol.
So I switched to Chernabog, which has been my character name on Everquest for the last 4 1/2 years. (Actually his full character name is Chernabog Astaroth.... since they look for the Star of Astoroth in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and I had to spell it different since it wouldnt let me use "Astoroth).
In Everquest I am a wizard with a little familiar named Minibog. Incidentally I drive a MINI, thus Minibog is also the name of my car. I am working on getting the MINIBOG license plate :)
Yes, nerdy and sick. I know, I know.

Scrooge McSam
03-16-2005, 02:06 PM
"Scrooge" was a nickname given to me by a roommate years ago. In a fit worthy of Scarlett's "I'll never eat a dirty root again" speech, I was declaring that I was tired of living hand to mouth and that things were gonna change around here. It was gonna be peanut butter and crackers until I could get this mess straightened out. Although he was supportive of my new direction, he couldn't help but call me Scrooge from then on out. He still does. :) It used to bother me a bit, but now that the finances are straight, I can laugh about it.

I'm Prudence. Pronounced "Prudence." Many places I've switched to Ethelberga, because that's a fine Anglo-Saxon name that is always available as a log-in. But that's twice as many silly bulls.

In Everquest I am a wizard with a little familiar named Minibog. Incidentally I drive a MINI, thus Minibog is also the name of my car. I am working on getting the MINIBOG license plate :)
I think it's cute! I've seen some clever license plates on Minis. We'll probably buy one as our next car- they're too cute! And hubby'll let me pick the color (which of course will be Purple Haze) and we can customize it and all kinds of fun! Or we may buy a used one and get no choice.
My name? I used to sign in with scubagrrl (hubby and I scuba dive and the grrl is usage among the lesbians) but I got a little bored and it didn't seem to fit this board. So now I'm alphabassettgrrl. I am the alpha (leader) in the house, we are most definitely bassett hound people, and the grrl remains. Yes, I know, technically not correct since I'm 35 now, but hey.
DwoernAdale
03-16-2005, 04:21 PM
O.K., here is the geeky origin of my peculiar screen moniker.
When I purchased my first computer in 1998 it seemed only natural to buy a ton of games to go with it. One of these was Everquest. I really had no idea that the game was a MMORPG or even that such games existed, so I was suprised to find I had to go online to play it. Being totally 'new' to the internet in general this was a fairly daunting prospect. I HAD to have a cool name and it had to be obscure I decided. But what? So I racked my brains for a whole 5 minutes and decided I would paste two names of some beloved fantasy literature characters together..and viola! Dwoern(pronounced dworn) was born!(he was a wizard too btw Chernabog :) )
It occurs to me that it might be interesting to see if anyone can guess them. Probably not, but I'll leave it a mystery for now if anyone cares to guess. If not, no big. I'll tell later.
Fast forward 2 years. Dwoern is a pretty prominent and powerful character in certain circles on my server(read I played way too much and had no life) and I had decided it was, indeed, a cool and obscure name. So when I found MP while researching a DLR trip that year I decided to use the name there as well. But it wasn't disney enough. So another painful 5 minutes of brain racking and I decided to paste part of a disney character name on as well. But what? Dwoernerella..no, interesting but too gender-bending. Dwoerncharming? No.. too misleading. Dwoernocchio! Now we're cooking! But not quite it. After a long list of fanta-disney names I settled on DwoernAdale. Why, besides being one of the few who like the Robin Hood movie, I don't know. I think I had some burning desire to post something at the time and just went with one. Kinda anti climactic I suppose.
So there is the overly long and boring tale of my screen name.
Heres a :coffee: for those who nodded off. :)

I love this thread! It's great hearing about the background behind so many names, learning the correct pronunciations, and name changes from different boards.
Daniel is my first name and several friends/co-workers started calling me "DisneyDaniel" a few years ago because I visit the Disneyland Resort so often. Most of them thought I was weird for visiting DL/DCA several times a month--but I've "converted" many of them! Now, about 1/4 of our office staff are Annual Passholders! I wish Disney would give "sales commission" for AP referrals! ;)

Well it turns out the day I signed up here I should have gone shorter with "TNS", but I was too unispired and thought of it after the fact, and I just went with my yahoo ID.
"jdramj" are all the first initals of every one in my immediate family. My husband is "J"-Jason, I'm "d"-Dawn....the rest are the kids in the order they were born.

I went with Wendybeth at MP because someone had already snagged Wendy and I was too lazy to create a username that I might forget. ( I didn't actually post there for a long while). Wendy is because my parents had run out of names by the time I came along (#6), and Peter Pan was popular with my sibs. Beth is short for Elizabeth, but then you all probably knew that....

Gemini Cricket
03-16-2005, 10:48 PM
My good friend Axel from Germany pronounces "Gemini" as "Jiminy" as in Cricket. I always thought that was funny. Silly Germans.
Gemini Cricket started off as a character at MP in the "Stinkerbell and Mad Madam Mim Takes Over the World" thread. I was their spy.
It has evolved to mean many things. I think a lot and have a great big conscience. I also find a duality in my posts like the Gemini zodiac sign. Sometimes I'm crunchy, sometimes I'm a goof.
I'm not a Gemini. I'm a Pisces.
Before that I was DisneyLad (which was too confusing in posts) and Doc (which I didn't want confused with Doc Krock from MP).
One thing about Gemini Cricket. He's much wittier on the boards. In person, he's rather shy. But when he gets to know you, he comes out of the shell.
Ralphie is my partner... who registered but never posts.
:)
I have been posting for almost 5 years as either DisneyLad, Doc or GC.

Misty also being the stripper name my friends & I made up for me one lost Vegas weekend. It was, needless to say, a VERY good time.
JAFO - Is a very old reference to my Disneyland Parking lot days. We nicknamed ourselves the JAFOs = Just Another F**ing Observer. Anyways, we used it as a code word for "The P-lot is Having a Party if you know us you'll come" because the higher ups would no longer allow us to post party flyers so we'd put up flyers saying "Jafo meeting every 3rd Wednesday at the twin towers, Huntington Beach". Stuff like that. For whatever reason I've used it ever since.
Other monikers: MistyMonroe (love Marilyn Monroe) or tgisjafo (my first & last initial my standard JAFO status)

The blue part of my name goes back so far, it has little meaning anymore except that it's a name I sign up with often.

I think I changed it some time ago just because I thought I would be extra boring and go with my real name, kind of.

I have a real life name, but I won't post it here. I believe in using screen names for online stuff, and real life names for real life stuff.
But if I were at Disney and someone shouted "hey Matterhorn Fan," I would probably turn around.

Chronic has several meanings for me but when I registered on MP, I was mostly thinking of my chronic case of Disneylanditis.

Nickname I picked up 20 or so years ago when I was in DeMolay, but hadn't used since then. Yep, real name is Kevin, but you knew that already. And I once was a baby and still act like one on occasion.

Nephythys- because I like watching people go "Neph-y...what????"
Over ten years ago an online friend suggested the name- which is a slight misspelling (did I misspell that?) of Nephthys- an egyptian goddess (of death and other lovely things) and I have used it, or some variation thereof, ever since.
Pronounced however you please- nep-thesis, nepf-this- whatever. Call me Nephy (Neffi) or Nep. Or Cas- as some of you know.

CP & GD ~ Someone on MC is named Disquieting Metamorphosis. :DLooks like the future kid will have to go with Dismaying Observation. "May" for short, eh?
I think Kevy just wants all the ladies to call him "baby".

We say "ridonkulous" because Tina Fey said it once. Stuck forever after.
Bornieo: Fully Loaded

For those who are curious:
Bornieo - Born - E - Oh..
AKA BornieoThe Love Bug, Bornieo Goes Nana, Bornieo Goes Bananas, and Bornieo Oh the Hell W/It.
I think you all get the joke.
When I worked for Marvel, there were 2 Mark's in the office and one dude came up with Bornieo, so it stuck. My last name is Bourne, as in The Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy, both jokes I've heard before. I'm also an island in Indonesia where canaballs live...
Meanwhile...
