Sen. Edward Kennedy, the brother of assassinated President John F. Kennedy and the elder statesman of American liberal politics, has a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said on Tuesday.
Kennedy, 76, who has been hospitalized in Boston since he had a seizure on Saturday, will likely need chemotherapy and radiation therapy to treat the glioma, a type of tumor that usually kills within three years.

That, err uh, sucks.

Malignant glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, accounting for more than half of the 18,000 primary malignant brain tumors diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Very very sad. He's one of my heros.

No - my comment was tasteless and not in the spirit of good will. Edited it out.

I've never been a big fan of his at all but you never want to hear about anyone being diagnosed with cancer. It is terrible beyond all reason. My prayers are definitely with him.

It was awesome saying that Kennedy was my senator while living in Boston. He is pro same-sex marriage. I heart him.

I have a love for many in the Kennedy clan. While Teddy has not led a life without controversy, he is still very admirable in many ways. I was very sad to learn of this news.

I do agree. I may not like what he accomplishes but when he sets his mind on something needing to be done he will work tirelessly for it. He doesn't just sit around in the Senate doing nothing.

Sad news, but maybe it will free up his seat to someone more deserving.
He was, after all, the least important brother of the family, and apparently not even deserving of an assasination attempt. And he has an enormous, target-shaped head.

And I'm a Democrat.
