View Full Version : It's official - California Dreamin' becomes reality

I received my revised offer today. $14,960 increase over the first offer. I suspect they don't want to go to a higher grade (even though they could) because it's the military and they're all rank conscious. So, they offered me the highest possible salary in the first grade. Which is higher than the first several steps of the next grade up, actually. Slight decrease from my current salary with my raise, but higher than my salary prior to the raise. 9K signing bonus. Paid relocation expenses, including mileage and per diem.

So, while I'm going to make them sweat until tomorrow, it's basically official. I am moving the the greater LA area this fall.

This is very exciting - but also bittersweet. There are additional changes underway in my life which I have alluded to elsewhere but won't be discussing further out in the open at this time. (IM me if you want the dirt). Some of these changes are very sad and a bit heartbreaking.

But, I hope that this new phase of my life will truly be an opportunity to embark on a new and amazing adventure. And I hope I can count on the rest of you already enjoying the southern California experience to help me over the rough and lonely patches.

So, with that, I invite you to prepare yourselves - invasion is imminent.

While I'm very happy to be able to have you nearer, you know my hugs and thoughts are with you while you go through all of the connected changes.

But enough of that for right now... let's talk about areas of the city, restaurants, stuff to do...

I guess I was mistaken when I thought the goat trick had something to do with Big Thunder Mtn.

I am happy for your offer. Congrats!

(but you do know that ferrets are illegal to own in California, right? You'll have to say they are visiting)

I forget, where are you now? Have you compared the cost of living in SoCal to your current location?

I know when I moved from small town Texas to Washington, D.C. I nearly leapt out of my seat at the salary I was offered. Then I went apartment shopping

Will you be making top-secret recon missions this summer? Will there be snacks?

Will there be boobies? It IS a requisite to flash me (and NM and, well, ALL LoTer's) for living in Southern California.

strange, I could have swarn you had more education than just the first grade....;)

So, with that, I invite you to prepare yourselves - invasion is imminent. Thanks for the warning!:D

Congrats! I hope this move is all that you have hoped for, and more! :snap:

Great !! Another AP holder to clog the lines at DL.

APs don't stand in line. They clog up the walkways, or hang out in the Grand Californian lobby AKA AP lounge.....

I think he meant the lines at the bars.

Is it sad that visiting In-N-Out is near the top of my list?

Public mojo for making me laugh so hard that I cried. Happy tears have been hard to come by lately. Thanks for that.

I forget, where are you now? Have you compared the cost of living in SoCal to your current location?

Seattle area. Not quite as expensive as SoCal, but not a HUGE leap either.

Great !! Another AP holder to clog the lines at DL.

I've been practicing obstructing walkways and making outrageous demands. Also, driving while on the phone and yelling at pedestrians. And making random u-turns.

Will you be making top-secret recon missions this summer? Will there be snacks?

Yes, and likely. Just wait until I arrive and get the kitchen functional, though! Desserts and more desserts. And then, some more desserts. But yeah, there will be some house/condo-hunting visits. Possibly involving mom, who is super cool.

Will there be boobies? It IS a requisite to flash me (and NM and, well, ALL LoTer's) for living in Southern California.

I'm sure the beelzeboobs will be on display sooner or later. And Herbert, the boobalo. (If you haven't seen him, it's the buffalo tattoo on my left boob.)

Thanks so much, y'all! I'm really excited. Terrified, but excited.

No, I mean people have many reasons to visit. I think a good burger is a good reason to move! :D

You'll fit right in like a native then!

Thanks so much, y'all! I'm really excited. Terrified, but excited.Don't forget, you'll have many friends in time of need. Moving is a big step, yes. But it sounds like you have it well covered. You'll do great!

APs don't stand in line. They clog up the walkways, or hang out in the Grand Californian lobby AKA AP lounge.....You have that backwards: it is the AP Lounge, AKA the Grand Californian lobby :D

Is it sad that visiting In-N-Out is near the top of my list? No, that means you have your priorities straight.

Yes, it is sad that this is not at the TOP of your list.
