The Walt Disney Family Museum (http://disney.go.com/disneyatoz/familymuseum/index.html)

OK I'm confused. The Disney Insider email talks about the Disney Museum at San Francisco's Presidio. But the website they reference lists no physical address or contact information.

So is this a real physical museum, just a website, or some work in progress type of thing?

I believe they've had an office at the Presidio for many years now but it wasn't an open-to-the-public museum, just the web site.

A few years ago they announced construction of an actual museum and I believe it is expected to open next summer (2009).

Alex is correct. I will be seeing JB Kaufman next month and I will ask him about more detailed particulars. He's been working very closely on exhibits and such for the museum.

On the Disney Cruise ship they did a seminar about this.....looks like it will be awesome when it opens...possibly a swanking in the making?

Yep. On the ship, we got to speak with Jeff Kurrti, who is one of the key people working on the museum. We got to see a detailed layout of the different areas, and it's going to be way too awesome.

This is the family's project, not the company's, so there will be a lot more personal stuff of Walt's on display.

Grand opening is tentatively scheduled for September 2009.

And, you can bet your butt that I'll want to help organize a swanking for this.

And if things works out (meaning roomie is away in Mexico), you can camp (and swank) at my place!

I wish i could have taped channel 40 to get that entire thing, so much detail.

I enjoyed his presentation, let alone how much was planned for it...

I cannot wait until its open and then find a way to get out to sanfran to see it with everything else in that magnificent city.

I will make this swanking come hell or high water! It sounds like a wonderful tribute, especially since it's not being done by corporate. I can't wait!

I was at the site last summer - I took some photos, but my camera got stolen. :(

It's gonna be gorgeous.

Man, that sucks! Sorry to hear that!

Why did they choose San Fran rather than the LA area where Walt lived and worked?

If I am roomate-free, I can host some LoTers if you bring sleeping bags and don't mind just one cat!

Yeah, but you have lots of time to plan your agenda. :) Besides, what fun would it be if you actually had time for everything?

I wanna go on opening day, so I can be the first jerk to ask "Where's Walt's frozen head stashed?"

I have nothing to corroborate that, it has just been a while since I have made a Blazing Saddles reference.

Why did they choose San Fran rather than the LA area where Walt lived and worked?

Because Ron and Diane live up there.
