Ken and I were to meet a couple friends at the park first thing this morning. When we parked, my seat belt in his car wouldn't unlatch. The button had somehow jammed.
So, I stretched it all the way out to start climbing out, when it snapped back in and the tension locked. We tried restarting the car, but it wouldn't give. I tried wriggling a bit more, and it locked even worse, with the upper strap behind my back and the lower belt having sunk below my stomach, digging into my hipbone to the point that I was crying.
I wish I could have laughed, but it was damn painful and scary. We ended up leaving right away to head home and grab some WD40 and/or scissors. (Thank the gods we live close.)
We finally had to cut it off.
He's calling Honda and seeing what can be done about it, because it sounds like a bad defect, especially with it locking up like that.
We also started talking about how seat belts should have a manual override of sorts on the tension mechanism, because if it happened to a solo driver, it could possibly leave them trapped if no one were around and a cellphone wasn't within reach.
Anyway, that was my morning adventure. I thought I'd share, because it was just so bizarre.
