If you know anything about this, I'd appreciate hearing it. My brother's group home is there.

Thanks,
Helen

The Sacramento Bee (http://www.sacbee.com/) has fairly good coverage. The Chico Enterprise (http://www.chicoer.com/) is a smaller paper but more local.

My former uncle lives near there. I can ask for more specific info from my cousin if you need it. She's headed there tomorrow.

Thanks, all. Your good thoughts are appreciated. The firefighters have done an absolutely awesome job containing this fire. Paradise, CA has deep, rocky canyons on two sides and lots of dry tinder all around.

The group home was spared. Thanks for your help, Katie Sue. I think it will be heartbreaking for your cousins to see what the fire has done to those beautiful trees.

I was just about to post this link -

Paradise being evacuated (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080709/D91QAKSO1.html)

They're evacuating Paradise. Authorities ordered thousands of residents in the town north of Sacramento to leave after erratic winds blew embers across wildfire containment lines, destroying 40 homes nearby, in the latest setback for already strained fire crews.

Here is another local site Magalia Weather (http://www.magaliaweather.com/), that has a link to a fire map and a live webcam from the area.

You can also get live police chatter and message board at: thenet411.net (http://thenet411.net)

Thanks, everyone. Good thoughts going out to all those with family and friends in Paradise.

The place my brother lives in was evacuated last night. The clients are all in a shelter in a nearby town. Since they are autistic, the change is doubly hard on them. Let's hope they can go home soon.

We are dealing the Piute fire here. I know quite a few people who have been evacuated. An area that still brings me good memories is gone.

Oh MG I'm so sorry. I also read earlier that another fire had burnt some buildings in Sequoia Park.

BC (before children) we used to go to the Property. It was near Lake Isabella, on Erskine Creek Rd. The road was more of a dirt foresty track, and you crossed the creek 26 times to get back there. It was more like a rural compound, complete with trailers, fire pit, outdoor kitchen that ran on propane (even the fridge), an outhouse and a working shower that pulled water from the creek. That entire area is gone. The only bright spot is that Liebel Ranch was saved. You had to cut through it to get back to the Property. The old lady still lived there, no power, no phone. They were able to save her house.
