So it doesn't get more lost in the Yosemite thread.
Discuss the Hearst Castle portion here.
Can some super cool Mod sticky this so it's easy to find?

Woo hoo!
Some folks have already rented accomodations for the Hearst days - but I'd really like to be part of this, so I'm willing to do research for another portion of us who'd like to stay in the area too.
Anybody want to join in with Tom and I?

Thread stuck, but can it be official that I am totally bitter about this?

Yes, I want to join in on the Hearst Fun!
I really want zapppop to come along. He's so interested in architecture. But if he does, we'll need to arrive a day early or something ... because he (and anyone who hasn't been there before) should take the 2 tours the Lashpair already took last time.
Oh, and who's going to start the separate thread about the LashPair's third Thursday in the States? And we'll also need one for the second Wednesday afternoon. :p

I think I have the answer, all of this would just be less complicated if the Lashpair would just upit and move to the USA already. Then we would not have 637 different travel threads.

No idea. Life is on hold pending software releases.
Also, finances are pretty tight too with the rising cost of everything.

I plan on stealing both their passports while they sleep in Cabin 1.5.

Yes (http://www.butchartgardens.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)
It's close to Vancouver though. I remember a ferry being involved but it may not have been to the gardens. I was 9.

Road Trip
Ah, looks like we might need a car then... what side of the road do Canadans drive on ?
(and they're really called Canadans, because the country's called Canada. If they were called Canadians, the country would have to be called Canadia).
Yes (http://www.butchartgardens.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)

Yeah, Butchart Gardens is near Victoria which is on Vancouver Island which is not the same thing as Vancouver. A 90-minute ferry ride will be involved to get from Vancouver to Vancouver Island and transportation will be needed from Vancouver to the ferry terminal (about 40 km) and from the Victoria ferry terminal to Butchart (about 20 km). The ferry is a car ferry if you have one.
I'm sure the Lashes know this but better be safe by saying it out loud.

Didn't know, but forewarned is forearmed ! Merci.
...and use of Kilometers noted and appreciated.
Oh and in case that was a serious question, Canadans drive on the right side of the road just like Americans. They are thoroughly dominated culturally.
But it is ok, they like it. Yeah they do.

Thank you!! :DActually discussed in another thread (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showthread.php?p=218282#post218282):http://www.hearstcastle.com/
Here is the link to the site.
I am sure someone else will be able to explain better than I the history of the Castle.
And, I am hoping that someone can tell me the name of the Ranch that was turned into a military base...years ago it said you could stay there. I would like to know if you can still stay there.
Darn it but I lost the site..........
Oh, um, yes, the story is really magnificent about Randolph Hearst. A publishing magnet? {is that the word?} The castle, wow, you really need to google it or something, it is too much to just put in a post. He built the castle and brought all of the finest things, made it a playground for he and his friends.

tim tams are everything Aussie that Vegemite is only DELISH! I was lucky to get the gift of a package when I was acting as the go between for our beloved bear as he supported the troops back in the day....a dear friend of ours was serving in the sand when the war started and Lash spent an insane amount of money to ship a package to me for me to send on to our friend....and sent a pack of tim tams as a treat for me...I will say that tim tams are still remembered fondly as the only chocolate that survived the desert heat.

Holy crap, I experienced Tim Tams for the first time last year when friends of ours visited family in Australia and brought us like 5 boxes of 'em. Fantastic! I kept a package in the freezer for hourly emergencies.
Lash(es), you must bring some to Cambria. Name your delivery fee and it's done.
