I have created a MySpace page to showcase my father's music. He has been recording songs (for his family) since around 1964, though nobody ever really thought to save any of them until 1978 or so, when I went into his office and collected as many scattered cassette tapes as I could locate (most of them were damaged beyond repair). Finally, a few years ago I handed the two or three shoe-boxes worth to my dad as a gift. We transferred most of them to CD and handed them out to relatives, friends, etc. He has continued to record, though, besides his wife, I am pretty much his entire fan base. So, I thought it might be nice to share with you some of my very favorite music.

If you are interested, click here (http://www.myspace.com/almostliveinlivermore)

Should you want to be his MySpace friend, I'll be changing the songs from time to time and maybe even writing the blog, just to keep things interesting. But so you know, this is my THIRD attempt at setting up this page. After about three months Myspace deletes the page. I don't know why. So enjoy the music while you can.

What you will be listening to is pretty much all my dad. He plays piano, saxophone, guitar, ukulele, banjo, xylophone, accordion and maybe even a few others. I play on one or two (that is me trying to keep the beat on "If You See Me Fall") and if you listen carefully you can hear me doing the Oohs and Ahhs (over-dubbed about four times) on "My Blue, Blue Girl" Though, do not let me mislead ye, this is my dad's show. I just like to hang out and watch him work and maybe stick myself in there when I can.

Don't expect anything professional. These are all done in an afternoon and only for us. In fact, I would say I am probably the only person in the family these days who still gets a new song in the mail from time to time.

I think it's very cool that you're doing this. I'll definitely check it out and add the profile to my list of friends.

Though - just a suggestion - maybe it would be good to collaborate with MySpace if they keep deleting the page. Find out what you're doing that might be against their TOS or requirements. Then you won't have to keep redoing it. (And if it turns out that, for some reason, it isn't compatible with MySpace, I bet you could start an actual website. You know lots of people with resources...)

I thought about a website, but once I hand this over to my dad (he doesn't fully know about it yet, just that I tried and it was deleted) I want something interactive and easy for him to full around with and MySpace fits that description. I can't figure out why it was taken down though MS said it received a complaint. Well, I used to have a photo of a can of spam next to the song about spam, so maybe there was a copyright issue? I don't know.

I added another song, Sara is Great, which I writ' (and that explains why it is not so good)

Don't forget your dad's shortest fan. That little kid was pretty sad the last time the page got deleted. He knows all the words to "The Blue Girl" song and kept asking me to play it. He couldn't seem to understand why it wouldn't work, because it was my profile song. MY page didn't get deleted, so why wasn't the song still there? 8 year old logic. He is happy again. Great songs, all. Even Sara is Great.

Wow, I needed some background music this evening and this page is doing the trick! There's plenty of polish and pretty melody to go around. Totally entertaining! :snap:

Thanks Caddy and co-horts! I finally showed the page to my dad (I waited until I could get a few more faces in the friend section) and I think he was quite touched. Well, my father is touched but now in a more emotional less unstable way.

That is just about the most awesome thing you could do for him. Music is a gift to be shared. And (contrary to your disclaimer) the songs are really quite good and can now finally find an audience.
