Cyd Charisse dies at age 86. (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2008/06/18/2008-06-18_cyd_charisse_who_danced_across_big_scree.html) :(

Wow, that's pretty impressive, considering she lived to be 86.

LOL! That's what I get for copying and pasting!

Fixed now.

Was reading her bio on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001998/bio) and was saw that her birth name was Tula Ellice Finkle. I can see why she changer her name.

Oh, she was such a long-legged hottie back in the day. Love her stuff.

But I always wonder what happened to those few frames missing from every single print of Singin' in the Rain I've ever seen, when she throws her leg over Gene Kelly's head near the end of the big, Broadway Melody number.

According to the commentary on the Laserdisc and DVD... the 'experts' have no idea why this edit exists - there's no jump in the soundtrack, so it's pretty obvious that the cut is in every print. So odd...

I love this picture of her.

She is the dancer I always wanted to be when I was a youngster. I even fancied calling myself Cyd for a while (I was probably 5 or 6). RIP Cyd.

NA, I can totally imagine you dancing just like this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EL05alymtI)

Cyd did have great style and grace. Since my turns are my weak spot, I always aspired to have the strength and speed of Ann Miller. She wasn't nearly as graceful as Cyd, but she could turn (and tap) like no one else.

It makes me feel better to think of these dancers off somewhere, no longer sick and decrepit, but able to dance as long or as much as they like, firing off triple time steps or doing 32 foutees en pointe.

Hmmm, yeah, the music seems to be intact over that frelling weird cut. So bizarre.

I tells ya, that missing piece of film is the Holy Grail of Cyd Charisse. Maybe there's something horribly embarrassing about it, and the custodian of that snippet of film was honorably waiting for Cyd to pass away .... hmmm.

And here is one of my favorites (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuJxYmJlEHY). I had/have The girl Hunt ballet comitted to memory, she oozes s-e-x (and makes an appearence in Crystal Allen's bathtub). This is another (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duLFwcsc6Nc) from the same film. As much as I love the Singin in the Rain Broadway Melody number (and I do), I love this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHnFmFSWk5U) from Deep in My Heart.

What amazes me, the obit said Cyd was 5'6", I always thought she was much much taller. Her legs always looked ten feet long. Gracious lady, I would imagine, and a fabulous cinema dancer. RIP Cyd.

BTW, TCM is prempting their programming on 6/27 to play 3 films (http://www.tcm.com/movienews/index/?cid=204018)

Maybe she was 5'6" when she died. We all tend to shrink down as we age.

(Oh, I can hardly wait for that)

Or maybe they meant her legs were 5'6". That I could believe.
