View Full Version : Love Honor Cherish - Fun Events to Support Equal Marriage Rights

Chernabog, Gemini Cricket and I are involved with a group called Love, Honor, Cherish (http://www.lovehonorcherish.org) * - organized at the proverbial grass roots level to defeat the proposed November ballot initiative which would amend the California Constitution to reverse the equal marriage rights recently awarded to gays and lesbians by the California Supreme Court.

Although that's a political issue, this is not a political thread.

Rather, it's a fun event thread to make everyone aware of, and discuss, the good works and happenings that Love Honor Cherish will be manifesting ... with the help of Chernabog, Gemini Cricket and yours truly.

So, I'm gonna cross-post from the Gay Marriage thread in the Daily Grind forum to get this rolling ... but I want a new thread that might include people who shy away from the political stuff.

I hope this doesn't stray too far into political issues ... but hey, if we can have 7 LashPair Tour threads, we can have a couple of gay marriage threads. :)

Mostly it's about inviting ALL OF YOU to the events that will unfold between Now and November ... and chatting up how much fun we have, and yeah, what a great cause this is working towards!

* * * * *

Yeah, these events are all going to be fundraisers ... but you might as well get used to the fact that the three of us ARE going to (politely) hit you up for money between now and November. And you SHOULD donate generously ... but you don't have to do so multiple times ... and that shouldn't stop you from attending multiples of the fun events put on by L.H.C. - - to have a good time while helping our worthy cause with even just your good-time participation. Does that make sense?

First up ... this coming Sunday ...

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6938/poolpartydl9.jpg

7582 Mullholland Drive, LA 90046. Noon to 5pm.

This is gonna be a lot of fun ... and though it's been advertised a bit around town ... well, it would be silly if it's just a party for the folks who meet every Tuesday at Love, Honor, Cherish. Nope, we want all our friends to come ... so Gemini Cricket, Chernabog and I cordially invite you!

:snap: :snap: :snap:

There won't be a hard sell to give money (though it's $25 at the door). But you might as well get used to being pitched to on this issue. This is, as you might imagine, a vital concern for the three of us. As for me, I've never been moved before to donate time and energy to a cause. That's shameful of me, I know. The most I ever did to protest the Iraq war was to honk in support as I drove past huge demonstrations of peace-loving Americans.

But this one gets me where I live. Because it's not about where I live, or how I work ... it goes to the very heart of me being gay, because it's about who I love. Quite differnent from housing discrimination or workplace discrimination .... marriage discrimination is an assault on MY love. So I feel it in my heart most strongly.

And now that justice has been done at long last in California, it kills me to think it may get snatched away so quickly.

But the Fundies are against us, and the Mormons are against us, and even Heinz Ketchup is against us!!

So please show your support by Having Fun With Us ... and come to the Pool Party or some of the other events that will be happening. Yeah, we'll have our hand out ... but you needn't grease our palms any more often or more generously than you are moved to.

:iSm:

* The LHC website is decidely a work in progress. Please excuse our mess as we imagineer a better site.

Meeting the LHC coordinators last night made me want to help. They are solid, all around nice people and smart.
I'm helping with a PSA shoot tonight and the pool party on Sunday. It should be fun. It's getting my activist juices flowing again. This is the third gay marriage cause I have helped.
At the very least, I get to meet some cool gays and lesbians. Which reminds me, there were like only 2 lesbians there last night. Maybe 3, but I wasn't for certain about her gayness.
:D

There were a lot more lesbians the week before.

The meeting the week before fell on the first day of gay marriages. I guess there was a lot of excitement in the "community" that day, because the meeting was packed to the rafters. Not so much last night ... but, because of that, I felt a lot more work got done.

What an awesome thing you guys are doing!

Though I support equal rights and all, but I can't help but think, "Really? You guys want to do that? Haven't you learned anything from the breeders?" :p

Yes, I spent the evening with this gentleman:

He is Charlie David from the show Dante's Cove. That's right, who wants to touch me?
:D

We worked on a PSA for Love Honor Cherish. It went well. He's very talented, professional and a nice guy to boot. I even got to help him run lines...

I would be absolutely willing to receive checks made out to "Love Honor Cherish" and I will get them to the fund raising chairman. If you want to PM me, I'll give you my snail mail address. Everything will be absolutely confidential. Also, if you wish to make a tribute donation, I can make sure that the tributee gets a card from us stating that a generous donation has been made in their honor. I will need their snail mail address... And like I said, all is confidential. I have done fund raising for GLAD, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and St. Francis House Homeless Shelter in Boston.

Or, wait until the LHC website is up to speed.

Another way to donate is through this site (http://www.lovehonorcherish.org/wp/?page_id=8). In the referral field, you can put "Love Honor Cherish".
EQCA is affiliated with LHC.
There are lots of ways to donate.

So Sunday's a big day for Love Honor Cherish Events.

At 5:30 there's a FREE screening of "Saving Marriage," a fantastic documentary film by some members of LHC about the course of the gay marriage revolution in Massachusetts.

http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/8032/savingmarriagepu5.jpg

Hahah, replace "Massachusetts" with "California," and "first" with "second" in the 1st paragraph of that blurb and we have exactly the situation facing us in California. This film couldn't be more timely or relevant.

Screening at 6:30, Reception at 5:30 (get there then, as it's expected to be a free "sell-out"). All Saints Episcopal Church (but playing in a secular auditorium) - 132 N. Euclid Ave., Pasadena.

And, earlier the same day, but for the feel-good donation of $25 for a good feel time, the LHC Pool Party (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showpost.php?p=217333&postcount=149).

Not since GayDay has there been this much Gay Fun in Southern California.

And you don't have to be gay to play!

Well the pool party was lots of fun ... even if I barely spoke to anyone who wasn't Gemini Cricket or Chernabog.

The "Saving Marriage" move was fantastic. I cried for the entire first 40 minutes. Seriously did not have a single dry eye ... it actually got annoying after a while, so I'm glad the movie stopped being quite so emotionally draining in its second half.

(I teared up about four times during Wall-E ... but straight out bawling during Saving Marriage. Oi.)
