So this band I love (Gogol Bordello) is going to be playing at The Grove in Anaheim in October. But I recall hearing some bad things about this venue.

The gig is on a Thursday, so a really poor venue will be two deadly strikes.

Anyone been there and have an opinion on the place???

I give it a Meh.

Saw Rent there. The stage was fine but the seating isn't really stadium or tiered very much. If you're not the first row in your tier it's nearly impossible to see. I spent a lot of the show looking around the people in front of me (and we were on the rail). There is also only 1 bathroom for each gender and the lines were crazy long.

I'd pass unless this was your one and only chance to see them.

Tough call, I'm wondering the same thing - Horrible site lines, so if it does sell out (and I suspect that's what you'd figure if you were doing the pre-sale) that also means getting there early to get close. The bar is also ill stocked and manned. I wish they had announced other venues - but I suppose they know if they did no one would go here.

I'm definitely leaning toward counting on other dates and venues cropping up, reasonably close. I was just wondering if The Grove was as awful as I remember hearing from a couple of people.

If it's GA rather than theater style, then probably won't be ridiculously bad, but it really just isn't set up for it. It began life as an (I'm not making this up, if you hadn't heard this before) "awards-show themed dinner theater" and never bothered to do anything to the building, inside or out, to adjust it from that function.

On the plus side, parking's a breeze, though you of course pay for it.

If it were me, I'd skip it.

I was really excited when I got the email (H hasn't seen Gogol Bordello yet). But then I remembered GD and CP's review of the KITH show @ The Grove. I think we, like iSm, will be watching for additional dates.

We saw Air GA and the only thing that saved us was it wasn't that crowded, so we could go to the lower terrace and be close to the band. There were conference hall chairs in the back upper terrace, if you wanted to sit - but it made the event feel like a funky wedding - Hmmmm maybe that's the feel they're going after...

There is two sets of restrooms off of each side in the back of the auditorium.

I think I'll wait for them to show up at a different venue.

Kids in the Hall weren't going to be anywhere else, and for that, I really don't care that the venue sucked and that I was craning my neck and sitting on my feet in order to see. It was f'n KITH, and the show kicked ass.

If you're sure that they'll be back, and you don't mind waiting, then sure, but it's not like the venue destroys the group...
