After the huge successes of Ali G and Borat, I figured that nobody would be duped by Cohen as Bruno. I guess I was wrong.

Lol!!! I love him! He's probably gonna get his ass kicked by the rednecks (remember the Kazakhstani National Anthem at the rodeo in 'Borat'?) but the guy is just fearless. :D

When he gets his ass kicked, tell me. I frelling hate him (though, oddly, I liked him in Sweeney Todd).

I could be. I never saw Ali G and Borat, In fact I'm currently wondering if "Ali G" is a separate movie from "Borat" or his character in it. I have no idea who/what Bruno is/looks like.

How could anybody dislike him? I think Borat is masterpiece worthy of mention in the same breath as Blazing Saddles or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. All hail SBC!

I agree with you on both counts.

I dislike him because his stunts are stupid and annoying. I hate the voice I hate the vapidity and I hate the waste of time. The only good thing is that he makes fun of people who deserve to be made fun of, but I just can't spend my time on him. I can make fun of rednecks on my own, thank you, or watch Jeff Foxworthy.

... or watch Jeff Foxworthy.

Actually, that is all you needed to say.

What he does is more like Colbert, except without the wink to the audience. It's easy to mock the stupid. It's much less easy to blend in with the stupid, to the point that they think you're one of them, and then to never let up on the scam, no matter how bad the situation gets. That is balls. While I don't care for any of SBCs characters, I think what he does is amazing. When Colbert pulls off the same stunt, say at the White House press dinner, not 10 feet away from the president, I am properly shocked and awed.

I may finally rent Borat, and cringe my way though the stuff that hits too close to home. (I do come from good mid-western stock and a long line of trailer-folk.)

Borat was much better than I thought it would be.

While I'm not a huge fan, I agree with Gn2.

Now there's an endorsement that'll REALLY work on Not Afraid!

Hmm, perhaps I overstated it, but we shall see if in twenty years we're still watching Borat.

I submit that yes, we* will be.

I doubt I'll be seeing this. As I said when we discussed Borat, I laughed a fair amount and it was a kind of laughing where I felt bad doing it.

But most of his bits aren't funny in the first place and by the end of Borat it was definitely feeling like an overstretched SNL skit. Just looking at the title of the new movie feels that way.

As for people being duped, I'm not surprised. Not only have most people not seen either Ali G or Borat, most people have probably not heard of it or didn't hear of it enough to have a sense of who Cohen is.
