Ok, I am majorly intrigued. (And not just because of the spoiler photo, d'uh. I love both the original film and the Cronenberg masterpiece)

Wow. There will never be anything that cool in Orlando. *sigh* That's more intriguing than my head can deal with.

This is the only type of opera I'd be interested in.
It is in English, is it not?

It is on my to do list. I love good opera, but when it pushes boundries, I'm all over it.

Crap crap crap...it's 2:20-ish and if I can stay awake for 25 more minutes I have a shot at tickets. Soft sell went up tonight according to my inside scoop who was right, and I had 2 somewhat-great seats in my cart when the site went down for maintenance. Argh! Why so few perfs??? And so many seats gone already...dang.:(
Edit:
Wooooo! I was hoping they'd open up early...two orchestra seats SCORED!!
Buy 'em right when you read this if you want to go!!!
I opted for the Weds, Sept. 10 @ 7:30 pm show. :)

Okay that frantic post might have seemed...odd, but my insider AND my ex had both told me about how hard LAOpera tix are to get. I've already seen the scalper prices (and they only have about 12 tix) so if you want to see this, you must jump on it. Just sayin' :)
And, phew, good night!

We attended last night and it was quite a trip. It opened with the same great music as the movie did and we were thrilled...unfortunately it, musically, suffered from that point on. I love opera, but a lot of modern stuff (with the exception of the great minimalists who don't need arias) suffers from the "can't put a good aria in there or it's trite" misconception. This one went there.
Too bad, because the acting and voices of the principals were both top-notch; the stage direction was inventive (great sex scenes on stage! Subtle and erotic - OMG!); it was actually filled with humor; and the effects were handled deftly (I always enjoy a good baritone emoting whilst crawling around the roof of a stage) -- in short: disbelief was suspended. I just wish Shore had brought his A game. Still and all a swanky evening out! :snap:
