Scroll down a bit once the page loads (http://www.filmofilia.com/2008/07/17/watchmen-first-official-trailer/)

For those not familiar with Watchmen, it was a hugely popular critically lauded graphic novel written in the 80s. Here's the Wikipedia entry for it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen). (possible spoilers)

not familiar with it, but it surely has my attention now. :snap:
(read just enough of the Wiki as to not spoil anything but still get the gist)

I waited until seeing Batman to view the trailer. It does not disappoint.

Hahaha, some people were more ecstatic about the Watchmen trailer than about Batman last night.

(I was more pleased with the Terminator 4 trailer ... but the Watchmen trailer was cool.)

Yeah, saw the trailer. I "hear" they are sticking close to the story, as I can only pray. If so, it just might rival all comic book movies.

I can't wait to see what the Terminator: Salvation rollercoaster turns out like.

I got to see both the Terminator and Watchmen preview when I saw Dark Knight. I had hear rumors about another Terminator movie and was sort of sceptical but it does look interesting. My friend is (was?) a fan of the Watchmen comic book series. I may have to see it just to see what its about.

I've come to love these comic book based movies. This year, especially, has been the year of comic book heroes. I'm glad for it!

Have all you Watchmen fans heard about the lawsuit between Fox and Warner Brothers for the rights?

Angry fans join in the battle over 'Watchmen' (http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-08-27-watchmen-battle_N.htm)
Warner Bros. made the film and plans to release it March 6, but 20th Century Fox has filed a suit claiming it has some rights to the project. As part of the litigation, Fox asked a judge to block the movie's release.

Few in the industry expect that to happen. But fans of the graphic novel aren't quietly waiting for the legal process to sort it out.

Ok, I'll admit and remind up front that I've never been a comic book person. A lot of friends when I was a kid who were but it never rubbed off.

I've never read a graphic novel.

Since May I have had my Amazon Kindle and it has been that long since I last picked up a physcial paper book. So I've been hearing all the buzz about the Watchmen movie, about how it is about the best graphic novel ever and I happened to walk by a Borders where it was on display in a window and it got me to thinking about how that is a book format that my Kindle can't replace.

"So," says I, "I think it is time to pop my graphic novel cherry and I'll be all set for the movie."

I've now finished it. And I have to say I'm completely perplexed. There are some compelling parts but it was pretty lame. This is what as all the geekboys foaming at the mouth? This has everybody bitching that they want to see the movie but they just know it will be screwed up?

God, I hope it gets screwed up or it is going to be an awfully boring movie.

150 pages of bad exposition with three pages of action. Yeah, great fun. The artwork is great in many places but as narrative I'm just not seeing it. If this really is among the best of the genre then I guess I just really am not cut out for comic books.

I'm in no way in a good frame of mind to discuss Watchmen as my mind is elsewhere but I will say its interesting to hear an outsiders view. I think the appreciation of the book has alot to do with the appreciation of comics, the history and the whole nature of the genre. In addition, it has alot to do with the time from when it came out. The mid 80's was a real revolution in comics and Watchmen, along with Dark Knight Returns brought real change in how comics were written and how we, as readers saw them. Watchmen was one of the first to go in a darker, more realisitic, epic-type path. It showed "super-heroes" in a different light because before generally speaking, the genre was very Adam West Batman and very bright and shiney. Compare genre films like ALIEN and MASH or even Toy Story - where they took something that was, though good in its own right, somewhat of a stail genre(s) and changed how we thought about Comedy or Animation or horror flicks. So, though it may seem boring, and it is a bit drawn out, imho - it certainly was the start of something better than had come before. Alot of us geekboys (aka fanboys) adore it more for than then the words on the page.

Anyway...
