I'm just going to throw this out there. Everytime I see this commercial I freakin' crack up.

LOL So, now, that it's over I've forgotten the name of the product, but, it has two women sampling some item that is supposed to have fiber in it. They claim they can't taste the fiber. The manager comes over and says that it is in there and points out the amount on the box.

What is knock me over funny is the look the younger woman gives the older woman when the clerk says 'She's had almost 4 days fiber already'...{or something like that}.

Their look is priceless.

Do you all have any commercials, current or past, that stand out as funny or unique?

I don't know if you can find these on YouTube or not....will have to go and check....

Since I rarely watch anything live (everything is TiVo), I rarely see commercials. So I have no clue as to which commercial that is.

Well, it is funny. :p Because they look at one another and realize 'Oh, shiet!!!'

But yeah, with TiVo and DVR is it a benefit to miss commercials. Right now I am zipping through them myself to get to my soap.....

It's kind of like with the radio and the iPod. I used to listen to the radio religiously. Now, I get new music from suggestions on the boards I go to and put what I want on my iPod and enjoy music without having to listen to fillers.

I am now watching a fair amount of stuff on DVR (and just as I predicted it hasn't cut down on my TV time but increased it, often on crap) but I generally forget that is what I am doing and let the commercials run and do the stuff I always did during commercials.

For some stupid reason a current commercial that tickles me is the one with "milky minutes." Just something about that phrase amuses me and then the look on the mom's face when her husband says "isn't your sister lactose intolerant" is just a good bit of commercial acting.

Okay, we DVR and fast-forward through most commercials, but the Aussie commercials (for the hair products) cracks us UP!

It was funny enough to make it onto Best Week Ever... or was it The Soup. Oh well, one of those shows.

I am at work and I'm blocked, otherwise I'd link it. Better to see it than explain it, so I'll edit this later, unless someone knows the commercial I'm talking about and does the dirty work for me.

Alex, I caught that one the other day and it cracked me up. I liked the first one they did, funny how the mom chews out the family but this one, totally cracks me up. The husband/wife banter is too true.

There's one right now for Tampax with "Mother Nature", a lady in a green skirt suit handing out "Your monthly gift" (a red gift box). Then the gift box is used as a metaphor throughout the ad. SO funny.

The mother nature one, too funny!! Funny {sucky, too} how she sees the newlyweds and runs off.

I had forgotten about the farting one {always check the backseat, ladies!} and I wish they showed what happened to that second masseuse, if she got some product....ya know, sometimes all some one needs is, ah, product. ;)

I like some radio programs, but, some just play the same songs over and over and over. I can do that myself. :D

Ah, and I am glad to see that I understand your link on product placement. So true. I notice a lot.

I remember on the reality shows {I'm thinking of 'Til' Death Do We Part' with Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro} how they would be given product to promote. I would imagine they got better products being on the telly.

I've known celebs who get things to use to promote. So, what would you call that type of promoting? I know it's been done forever, like in Forest Gump.

Then last night as I was trying to sleep I heard Jimmy Kimmel doing some ad on his show. It actually reminds me of the 50's sponsoring of shows and how the host would always give a spiel about some product.

You need to all know (and of course the terrible imitation Aussie accent gives it away) that this isn't an Australian product, and we've never had these ads or product over here.

My favorite commercial was on I think something like twenty years ago, and I only saw it twice (I think they might have run into some legal issues).

It was a parody of the Folger's coffee commercials in which an announcer would say in hushed tones "We're in one of America's finest restaurants, and we've replaced the fine coffee they usually serve with Folgers crystals. Let's see what happens."

In this commercial, a similar announcer in a similar restaurant said "We're in one of America's finest restaurants, and we've replaced the fine coffee they usually serve with sand and ground-up clam shells. Let's see what happens." Cut to shots of the diners sipping from their cups, then gagging, spitting up, throwing cups to the ground, overturning tables, throttling the waitstaff. Turns out it was a commercial for a vacuum cleaner.

I do that all the time! I had one of those moments at a hockey game once, too.

Product Placement has already begun

Product placement is less annoying than the blurbs at the bottom of the screen during my show. I can deal with a character holding a can of Coke so long as it doesn't interrupt the story.

Then last night as I was trying to sleep I heard Jimmy Kimmel doing some ad on his show. It actually reminds me of the 50's sponsoring of shows and how the host would always give a spiel about some product.

I've seen him doing that, too. I was confused the first time, but now I skip through that like I skip his intro. Now that we're back from the cruise I need to tell TiVo to record him again.

Advertising (and station logo) bugs were the last straw for me a few years back. I stopped getting cable TV. (And, my rabbit ears pick up nothing in my current location, so I am essentially TV-less.) I haven't looked back, and I don't regret it a bit. There are a number of shows I can watch for free the next day on my computer, and a very tiny number of shows I might even pay a couple of bucks for on iTunes. Or, if enough trusted friends tell me it's a must see, I'll watch the DVDs a few years after the buzz has died down. It works great for me, even if it means I'm disqualified from a lot of "water cooler" conversations.

But that BUG thing. AAARGH! Of course I hate it. EVERYBODY hates it! So why does it persist? I thought the free market was supposed to vanquish sh!t that everybody agrees sucks. It just seems to get worse and worse.

Anyway, off the TV grid and happy.

Ah, to be rid of the telly. Watching t.v. last night, I caught a snippet of 'Tori and Dean' {as in Spelling}. They were in their new house, new kitchen, deciding what to do with the kitchen. She says what she wants...and then a t.v. in that corner. Her hubby is like No way!!! If we had it your way, we'd have a t.v. in every room, on the fridge!! {I thought, be careful what you say because they do make them....}. He went on a bit more about why he didn't want t.v.'s in every room and I loved it. Just because you can have it doesn't mean you should.

I have to add here that I removed the t.v. from out kitchen for over 3 years. Then some show came on the Hubster had to watch and the t.v. hasn't left. :(

This is a bit off topic, but, since you brought up cable and rabbit ears, anyone have a comment about the new digital box thing that is supposed to happen in February? Coincindentally right after George leaves office? Who is making the money off of that one?

I am a bit bugged by it. I mean, what about, yeah, the people who only watch t.v. with those rabbit ears? Screw them? Hello, some people can not afford a t.v., period, are lucky to have an old b&w.... I may be late to this argument {sorry if there is a thread already} but dang, it seems like a heck of a whole lot of people in this country are being told to bugger off.

Unless....if you hear the commercials..{oo, a link!} they say that in Feb you may not be able to get any chanels. Hmmmm.

When I took TV Production back in 1985 the switch to digital date was known then so it's nothing at all new.

There are programs where you can get a converterbox and use your rabbit ears still. They run those commericals every 5 minutes at my moms and I think I've only seen one here. I was guessing that in rural areas more people use rabbit ears than here?

What I'm trying to find out is if you have non-digital cable (aka no cable box) will you need a converter box now, or will they force you into digital cable?

If you're getting cable of any type you will be ok.

And as katiesue said, the deadline for switching to digital has been set for much longer than Bush has been in office. I think the current date was set around 1998 though the plan to do so was started much earlier.

As for who is making money, that would be pretty much everybody: the government gets to reclaim spectrum it can auction off. The networks get a broadcast format that can be split into multiple channels (you can broadcast more in the same frequency than you could before, for example, I have four different NBC sub-channels I can watch).

And really, the consumer has benefits in ways since one of the reasons we have finally switched to modern TV technology (HD, flat screen, widescreen, etc.) is that the manufacturers were assured of enough future business in the new products that they could justify the R&D necessary (though Japan, by switching to digital broadcast 15 years ago also subsidized a lot of this) to develop them.

I do love all of the channels, myself, and even love my new t.v.s {even though they are the cheaper brands, they are still awesome, to me}.

I need to read up on that link {favorited, thank you!} to see what will happen to stubborn people like my mother who refuse to get even basic cable. Or, actually, can't afford it. Some budgets can't handle even that right now.
