Our TV here at the office, an older 35 inch tv, is currently showing just a thin, maybe 1/2 inch, line of picture straight across the middle. That means it's toast right?

It means it's time to buy a 60in flat screen.

It can probably be repaired for less than the cost of a new TV. But then again, it's also a good excuse to get a new TV.
If you do get rid of it, be sure to dispose of it properly at an electronics recycling facility. Some retailers will also take them. Electronics, especially CRTs, have a great deal of hazardous waste that does not belong in land fills. And some of it can be recycled.

Now you made me want to go cry and eat a bowl of ice cream while channel surfing between Lifetime and Oprah.

Apparently if you just leave it on for a while it starts working again. Or at least that's what it's done.

That doesn't apply to electronics.
Electronics break it's time to get new and improved ones!

Dear KatieSue,
*Smooch*
There is nothing wrong with your TV set - it's just that the American TV Stations are all broadcasting in UMW (ultra-mega-wide) format. The reason your image is only 1/2" tall is that you now need a set that is 9 feet wide to keep the viewing ratio correct.
High-Def is sooooo yesterday.
Something has to drive consumerism. Enjoy your new flat-screen.
Love and hugs,
The Stoat XXX.
