Bernie Mac dies at 50
Comedian Bernie Mac died this morning in a Chicago hospital

Comedian and Chicago native Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia, his publicist confirmed.

Mac, 50, had been hospitalized for about a week at Northwestern Hospital, according to his spokeswoman. A few years ago, Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs.Whole Story (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-bernie-mac-dead,0,995933.story)

I just posed elsewhere:

Who picked Bernie Mac in the "Ocean's 10" pool? Sure, Carl Reiner looked like easy money...

But maybe that wasn't properly respectful.

I enjoyed his TV show enough to watch most of the first season or two. Fifty is awfully soon to go, given how close to that I am.

WB must really be feeling it based on that comment, flippy.

I was shocked to hear about his passing this morning. I always thought he was genuinely funny and I enjoyed his work.

My dad has sarcoidosis. It can be a very difficult condition to live with, and I'm surprised at all Bernie Mac was able to accomplish while dealing with that additional complication.

He was the coolest. A cross between Sammy Davis, Jr. and Ward Cleaver. Truly terrible news.

In conjunction with the Isaac Hayes (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showthread.php?t=8390) thread, it seems that Bernie Mac had recently wrapped up a movie with Isaac Hays: Soul Men (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1111948/).
