A bit of a misleading headline. These weren't character CMs in the park wearing Disney costumes. These were hotel CMs demonstrating outside the park wearing their own, non-official costumes.

Yes. Some were in costumes (as in Disney employee uniforms) and some were in costumes (store bought Disney brand costumes for consumers).

I found this interesting (from AVP's article):
The union distributed a media kit that included a claim I have not yet heard them make. According to their statement, Disney CMs traded pay increases during previous contract negotiations to keep their free health insurance, and state that Disney CMs are now paid as much as $2.50 per hour less than employees in similar positions at other Anaheim hotels as a result.I read this as "we are not happy with the contract we negotiated." Are the employees at the other hotels making $2.50/hour more getting the same health insurance that Disney Hotel employees are getting?

Worst Mickey ever!I don't know... do you remember the one that €uroMeinke had as an avatar for a while?

I friggin hate the news. Already, I've gotten a call from someone, saying, "Did you hear that Disneyland's characters were arrested? They took Tinkerbell and Mickey and others!" So, I looked it up online while on the phone and then said, "Um. Those are protesters wearing very poorly made costumes. Those aren't official characters." The response I got - "No, the news said that they're Disney characters! Disneyland must really be upset. This is going to be bad publicity for them. I wonder if they have enough characters for the park still?"

I hate the friggin news. It enables stupid people to think they have "knowledge".

Yet another example about how terrible the media is today. I am hating them more and more each and every day.

Kevy, I think the point is, Disney is taking away the health bennies now, AND they make less than all the other hotels.

Yeah, the news teasers would make you believe that, it isn't till you get into the articles that you find out it's just protesters... who happen to be CMs

Kevy, I think the point is, Disney is taking away the health bennies now, AND they make less than all the other hotels.I admit I didn't read the whole article.

But I have learned to not form an opinion until I have heard BOTH sides in labor disputes such as these.

:ot: Have I ever mentioned I ADORE your avatar, Kevy? I can't mojo you for it right now, but it's gorgeous, what's it from?

Back to your regularly scheduled protest discussion...

I believe only one of the arrested people is a CM, at WDW. The rest are supporters who don't have to worry about retaliation.

And i LOVE the news. Yes, they are misreporting it and making everyone think that Characters were arrested. I daresay that's the goof the protestors counted on, because it gives Disney the bad P.R. that, unfortunately, arresting some poor housekeeping maids wouldn't have.

:ot: Have I ever mentioned I ADORE your avatar, Kevy? I can't mojo you for it right now, but it's gorgeous, what's it from? Her name is Apnea (hence my current "title"). She actually does some alt porn and is a former Suicide Girl. But I absolutely love that particular image (there was no nudity in the whole picture - it is only slightly cropped to maximize the avatar image).

Her web site is http://apneatic.com/index3.php and is obviously (based on my description above) is NSFW
