So I got this email at work, someone that knows someone in my company rescued some abandoned puppies and needs to find homes for them (they are ADORABLE!!!) Here's the email they sent out:

Subject: FREE LABRADOR PUPPIES- dumped and in need of home - please help!
They're FREE
Please help find these babies homes. If you can't take one, please forward
to anyone who may be interested. We found these 5 lab pups in our neighborhood this morning. Apparently, someone dumped them. We think they are 6-8 weeks old. Attached are a few pictures. Really need to find a home we are leaving to go out of town on Saturday. Just let me know if anyone is interested.
The original email is from the 15th, but it just started getting sent around my company today, so I'm guessing that they're still looking. I'll try and post up the photos later today (photobucket slows my computer down a lot).

Oh, god. Those pictures are the reason I'm not allowed to go in pet stores. I want a dog very badly but don't want to get one until I'm in a position to have room for the dog to run and I'm home more often.

Hmm... would've helped if I'd given you the contact info for them, wouldn't it? If you're interested in adopting one of the rescues, pm me and I'll send you their email address.

Tell me about it. They're just innocent pups, they can't survive on their own! And where's mama?

Mousepod: correction... labs are FREAKING AWESOME dogs :)
Before Barnum I had a lab/golden mix and my mom used to have a lab. Terrific dogs. I'd totally take one of these, but we have a small place and our hands full trying to raise Gidget. Two dogs is about all a townhouse can handle (I know that's bs but I'm trying to tell myself we can't take any more dogs)

So very cute. If i lived at home or had a house with a yard i'd take one immediately. But of course our house is at it's limit right now and i've had to say no to more kittens yes kittens and another chihuahua if we didn't have two already we'd have another one lol...hope they find good homes and FAST.

Response from the person who sent the email:
Good Morning,
Unfortunately all the puppies have already found homes. This email was originally sent last Friday and by that evening they were all gone.
Sorry, I know that I had alot of responses about people interested in these puppies :( But at least the little guys have found good homes :)
Thank you so much for your interest.

I love my lab. However, the dog is lucky to be alive. Slipcovers, sprinklers, old diapers, drywall. You name it. Years back when we volunteered at the SF animal shelter socializing dogs, I walked a one-year-old black lab named Bailey along the railroad tracks. The dog ate a jock strap coated with grease.

My brother in law has a lab that regularly eats holes in the drywall strangler. Very strange.

Having similar issues with our rescue, Gidget. She was starved thin when Alex found her, and she'll eat/chew absolutely anything. She even came in the other day with a barbecue coal in her mouth! We're forever taking wood chips away from her (our HOA decided to spread tree-chipper mulch all over the hill behind our yard), and we're really hoping to cure her of this habit of chewing on plugged-in electrical wires before she hurts herself. Unfortunately, bitter apple does nothing with her (I think she even likes it! )

Yeah my friend Nick's dog bit through one of the wires and it shocked her (the apartment smelled like burnt dog hair for a day lol) but she never bit through a wire after that.
However, from what I was reading about that bitter apple stuff (from another website):
Q: Thank you for the suggestions. However, she LIKES the Bitter Apple! I sprayed the toes of my boots and she licked it off, then chewed the toe and sole off! Is a nylon muzzle really dangerous if she's in our bedroom? We did have a very good trainer recommended by our Vet that worked with us for 2 months, but it was primarily to learn to walk on a leash, not jump, and to sit-stay-heel-lie down. Both dogs learned very well. Should I mix the toys she has, like squeakies, hooves, and balls? We've never given her rawhide, because the vet said that would tell her any leather is ok.
A: Bitter Apple evaporates and changes quickly, which is why it doesn't harm things, but also means it only works at the moment for training. It does not protect your things when the dog is left unsupervised with them. You could try some of the other bittering products, but most of all, don't leave the dog alone in a situation where she will be tempted to chew. And, of course, dog-proof your house by keeping chewables out of reach, just as you would child-proof it for a toddler. Don't leave things out where the dog can get to them.

Pfft. Yeah, don't leave lamps plugged in... great advice. I wonder what the other "bittering" products are? Hot sauce?

Thank goodness they found homes!
I wonder if the assholes who dumped them would also do that to their children? I hope they don't have any other animals, let alone kids. :(

It's a fraud spam- made the rounds out here in CO too. I am not sure even the follow up is "real"- I believe you got the email- but there is something weird about this.
Seriously- I had like 3 friends all cross post it believing the dogs were here-on August 13th- before last Friday.

LOL.... I don't know. I think hot sauce would make your house smell really bad. My mom used to put tabasco sauce on my fingers to make me stop chewing my nails (hahah obviously that didnt work... I started liking the tabasco sauce).
The dog chews on the cords right after you spray the stuff? That is weird. :-\

There are two similar emails on Snopes: one was originally true (http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/puppies.asp), and the other was false (http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/golden.asp).

Well - my friend did email her right away and got that response back which seems pretty odd if it was a hoax. After all, who would respond back like that to a hoax?
I would either expect something like - sure, just deposit some money in x account and pick up your (non existant) dog
or
Sorry to let you know that you've been duped by an internet hoax. I've gotten 10,000 requests for dogs that never existed.
Her reply would seem to imply that it was real and the dogs now have good homes.

Well, she doesn't chew on the cords while we're there, or obviously we'd stop her. But I've put the bitter apple on other things (like the corner of my laptop when she was getting a little too friendly with it) and it seemed to attract her.
You're right, can't use Tabasco because it's vinegar based and that would give Alex a headache. Ugh.

As far a chewing goes, tabasco sauce works great along with crate training and providing lots of alternative chew toys (frozen Kongs filled with peanut butter for example).

It would - but given that my friend posted the exact same email 2 days before last Friday indicates this email has been out there for a while-no clue why, it's odd.

It does seem odd that people spread spam without any chance of monetary gain. What is the intent? Just to try to trick people? Clog up the internets?

- a point I was just coming in to say.
It could be a harmless spreading of a valid e-mail.
It may not be-it could be as harmless as spam, and as devious as fraud.
Who knows?
