View Full Version : Ever wondered what the dubbed stars of classis Hollywood musicals sounded like?

A former editor* has taken it upon himself to restore the original vocals of dubbed Hollywood stars. He then posts them on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=marknyc5).
I think this should be required viewing for all my gay brothers, their hags, and any "curious" breeders. ;)
*No, it's not me.

Your post reminds me of a movie I keep thinking of that that I cannot recall the name of.
It is a movie (40' or 50's I believe - it is B/W) about movie making as the transition was being made from silent to Talkies. It is a story about a leading man who was publicized as being attached to his leading lady. However, the starlet was only a successful actress because you never heard her voice - not even in public (it was very screechy).
If I recall the story correctly, a voice actress was brought in to dub the starlet for the talkies. Leading man ends up galling in love with voice talent.
What movie is that?

Audrey Hepburn's "I Could Have Danced All Night" - ouch!
This will be fun to investigate, though I bet it will be a rare song that I listen to all the way through.
A side note - if I am straight, love musicals, and am almost certainly not having children, do I really have to wear the epithet "breeder?" (And what exactly am I "curious" about?)
Edited to add - Kevy, it sounds like you are talking about Singin' In The Rain, but that's in color.

It's all my damned black and white photos you've been staring at!
Anyway, I'm totally with Flippyshark on this one, add to the queue, you won't be sorry. Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont is an absolute scream. The dancing ain't bad neither.
