In my Birthday thread I mentioned an event that was the tipping point in making yesterday my "Best Birthday Ever!" At the time when I posted I was unsure if I could share this experience with the world. However after discussing the matter the friends who pulled this surprise on me said that I could and probably should. I believed it deserved its own thread.

My family had 6:30 reservations at the local Red Lobster. So at 6 PM we all load up in a few cars and head off. As we head down the road my cell phone rings. The Caller ID showed me that it was a private number. I was told that at about the time of the call I might be getting a surprise. So I picked up the phone and answered.

"Hello! Is this Brian?" said the person on the other end. As he said this I went stiff cause I immediately knew who the caller was once I heard him speak and I went into shock.

GOVERNOR MIKE HUCKABEE CALLED ME!!!!

I had prepped a few things that I wanted to say to my hero and inspiration for so many months in the event that I did get to meet him in person or talk to him but in my shock I wet my pants (figuratively) with those thoughts and I went into a really bad Porky Pig impression!

Then something else happened. The line went dead as he started talking to me again. My shock was replaced by frenzy. I realized that he had done what my friends asked him to do and he had fulfilled their request. Mike did not have to do anything else. He could have continued with his own business and I would not have blamed him because of how busy he is on a daily basis. However my phone rang again about a minute later (or what seemed like one).

So what did Governor Huckabee have to say to me? Well of course he wished me the Happiest Birthday ever. He also thanked me for my support and my hard work I had put in for him. Then came a huge shocker and something that touched me beyond belief. He told me that I (and my life story) inspired HIM!! Throughout I continued struggling to talk in coherent sentences. However I made sure that the words Thank You came out of my mouth several times. It truly was a complete honor and privilege! I think I said those exact words at one point but I am not completely sure of that.

It took me several hours to go to bed last night. I am still floating this morning and it will take me a long time to come back down to earth. My 26th Birthday now goes down as my best Birthday ever but it will go down as one of my best days ever! Unbelievable! :D

Though I'm on the other side of the ideological and religious aisle from Huckabee, I find him likeable, funny and a straight shooter. Congratulations on getting to meet your hero, and color me impressed. That's incredibly cool.

Lol, BD! When you posted that you'd had something awesome happen to you, I had a feeling it had something to do with your political hero. Too cool, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!:snap:

Awesome!

Sadly, if my political hero called me I'd be a bit freaked out. Reagan's been dead for a while.

I knew about some of this but I really got a peek into how my two friends really played me as if I was a drum set to make sure that the call was a complete surprise. There was a two week build up with several smokescreens to throw me off the trail of what my friends were doing. The last of those was the E-mail letter I referred to in my Birthday thread. It was a genuine letter that I will be receiving a hard copy of but it was E-mailed to me (by Mike's office assistant) to eliminate the slight possibility in my mind that my big surprise was the call I would get a few hours later.

On my Birthday, I was complete manipulated by my friends and family and I couldn't have been more pleased!
