In May, for 9 or 10 days.

My friend has been there several times, so he's got the hotel scoping covered. Of course I'm going to do the touristy stuff, and we're going to at least 3 shows, but we're looking for some off the beaten path to go explore. We won't have a car, so we'll be reliant on foot power, cabs and the subway.

I'm content seeing the Statue of Liberty from afar (especially since we don't have family records coming in through there), but if there is a way of not spending 4 hours in line to go then I'd be open to going out there.

WOOHOO! I'm so excited!

It ISN'T worth the second wait (IMO) to go inside the pedestal. For what we got to see (you don't go up the statue any more - just inside the base to take a peek up her dress), it wasn't worth the horrible second line. I do miss having seen Ellis Isle (because of the time we wasted in line to go into the statue), which is the second stop on the boat trip.

Also, for good barbecue in Manhattan, visit Virgils (http://www.virgilsbbq.com/) - just off of Times Square.

For something offbeat, visit the Museum of Sex (http://www.museumofsex.com/) (MoSex). It isn't some sleazy place, but actually kind of interesting.

Great minds think alike. I have an outline of a horror screenplay where the climactic scene takes place in an anatomically correct statue of liberty.

Vive la France.

But I digress.

It's been decades, but I thought the boat trip was way cool and inspiring. But then I always liked the field trips to the United Nations as well.
