The new season of Survivor kicks off tonight at 8:00pm on CBS.

I shall have to visit the website to review the bios today so I can make my always hilarious pick on who I think will win this season...

I'm rooting for Marcus because he's hot. :D

I'll be rooting for Jessica, a.k.a. Sugar. And not just because she's hot in a Betty Grable 50s pin up sort of way.

Oh wait, no, just because she's hot in a Betty Grable 50s pin up sort of way. Though the claim in her bio that "her laugh is contagious" is worrisome.

My picks for this season:

First out: Susie. She looks uncomfortable with nature and does not look to have much to offer in terms of building a stronger tribe.

Win it all: Marcus - He's got that doctor vibe going on and looks to be a good addition to a tribe.

Best eye candy: Kelly. Blond sassy ex-cheerleader. That works.

Personal fave: Randy. Self described as angry, blunt, mean and sarcastic. What's not to love?

I don't watch the show, but to me Charlie Herschel is the cutest :)

I know nothing about their personalities, that's just who I'd wanna smooch with from their pictures :)

I would totally root for Randy, simply because of his profession (solidarity and all), but man, the dude seems like an ass. I really hope it's just an act.

Actually, I may start rooting for Randy. He made a good read on Dan after Exile Island. I wouldn't want to play poker against Randy.

There must have been some sort of accident on Red Dwarf that let dimensions cross because that's not Ace, that's Arnie Rimmer.

Danny's got a good chance to go nuttier than Shane "Blackberry" Powers.

Upon reflection, I'm loving Bob. He reminds me of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Kelly, Paloma, and Jacqui.....I must remind myself to blink. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

Bob is great. Love his Maine "do it yourself" mentality. I'm not sure how long he'll last but so far his tribe is winning, so he's on the right track there.

I love how Marcus picked up that Charlie has a crush on him.

I feel sorry for Ken. Poor dude's been living in his own head for 4 years, he seizes his opportunity to start fresh, put aside his shyness and it works! Too bad he latched himself onto the most annoying hottie out there. It really says something about Michelle that she got off to a worse start in the social game than the freaking video game dork who hasn't kissed anyone in 4 years.

Looks to me like Bob is a "maker". Him plus the video game kid means they're keeping up with societal trends, which is awesome.

Hmm, a gay lawyer...sounds familiar ;) The other guy he was chatting up set off my (crappy) gaydar as well...

Hmm, a gay lawyer...sounds familiar ;) The other guy he was chatting up set off my (crappy) gaydar as well...No, Marcus (hot doctor) said in his confessional interview that he knows Charlie (gay lawyer) has a crush on him, and he's just basically using that to his advantage to form an alliance. He said he's straight.

They didn't show much of her in yesterday, but the short bit they did show confirmed my suspicions - she's going to be annoying.

I did like that her occupation according to her bio on cbs.com: "When she is not acting, this 29 year old works as a waitress named "Sugar" at '50s diners"

Her occupation as stated on the island: "Pin up model" :snap:

Oh boy! This is gonna be fun. They are starting the season with a foot race and one of the cast members is an Olympic Gold Metal Sprinter. *sincker* *snicker*....

Errr.... Crystal? Hello? Why are the guys having to push you up the hill?

School yard pick...

Err.... Crystal? Hello? Susie? WTF?

Michell. Damn, one hottie down right off the bat. I wonder what the survivor screening process is like when it lets an anti-social bitch like that through.

My pick for first out (Susie) was not first to the chopping block but I'd say she is not far from it now.

Bob the builder is off to a good start, but his type does not tend to make it too far unless of course his tribe wins every challenge....

You know, when they came back from tribal council, I though GC (heh) was going to be a pretty good leader. He offered the opportunity to start fire to someone else, but graciously accepted it when the group wanted him to do it. And it appeared he sought help from Gillian to get it done.

Yeah, that didn't last long.

And boo on the Olympian. Sure she's a mom, she can't be in Olympic condition at all times...but she clearly didn't bother doing any training for this. Which would be fine, if she weren't talking about how she's going to kick ass.

I'm still not finding Sugar annoying. I think she hitched her wagon to an annoying player.

But I am enjoying watching Corinne more and more.

Is there anything GC won't quit? When it was his turn to go down the water slide my wife said, "He's just going to give up anyway."

Cadaverous Pallor

Ace Rimmer just cracks me up. When he dived down the slide backwards, I almost choked laughing. What a douche.

I also loved the part where the old guy was dragging the skinny chick to the line and he said "IT'S OVER. IT'S OVER", so she would stop squirming. Hilarious.

Looks like this will be a silly season more for laughs than anything, not one where we can watch people do well, like watching Ozzy swim or something.

I have to admit, watching that "drag people over the line" event made me feel dirty. I don't know why that seemed more exploitational than other events, but it did.

Adios Rimmer. Smoke me a kipper and all that.

I was glad to see Ace go, but I'm disappointed in Kenny for going with the blatant lie to do it. He's damned lucky Ace was dumb enough to ask for the idol. I don't care that Kenny told a lie, I care that it was stupid to do so. He could have just easily laid out a valid strategic reason for her to flip without fabricating anything.

Stan4dSteph
11-10-2008, 09:36 AM
Stupid Suzie! The cutest guy is now gone. Next will be Bob the Science Guy. I hope she enjoyed her brief feeling of power, because she's not long for the game. Randy is going to be seriously pissed at her.

Ghoulish Delight
11-10-2008, 09:48 AM
Suzie is dumb to have gotten herself where she is, but being where she is, that was the only reasonable chance she had to be anything but 6th place. Not that it improved her odds greatly, but it's the best she had.

And wow, I cannot believe what a total idiot Sugar continues to prove herself to be. I mean, I had given her the benefit of the doubt that she voted for Rimmer not because she believed everything Kenny told her but because she recognized that he was a losing horse. But no, she just believes everything anyone tells her apparently. Not that Ace asking to hold the hidden idol didn't conveniently feed Kenny's lie, but still, what a maroon.

Ghoulish Delight
11-14-2008, 11:14 AM
Oh...my....GOD Sugar is dumb. (seems to be my word of the season)

D-U-M-B dumb.

So let me get this straight. Was it 3 days ago that you finally got a clue that Ken lied to you about Ace? And you seemed to grasp that concept at the time. And yet, here he is, lying to YOU about how the people you've been living with function, and you take it entirely at face value. I know you've been off at exile a lot, but HE LIED TO YOU BEFORE AND YOU KNOW IT!

Wow. Just wow.

As an aside, I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but I've now seen two comments that are making me suspicious. Last week, Suzie said something like, "But I'm trustworthy, that's my character." It seemed odd, but she's odd so whatever. Well this week, after Sugar inexplicably cried during tribal, CP and I were curious what she said to the camera after writing Charlie's name. At the end she shrugged and said, "I'm a traitor."

I'm likely reading too much into it, but I've long suspected that for several seasons producers coach the contestants on strategy types, perhaps going so far as assigning them a strategy they are to employ during the game. "You're the schemer, you're the work-hard-at-camp guy, etc." Those two seemingly throw away comments lend credence to that.

The only one I actually like right now is Bob, but he seems too socially inept to stick around. Can you dig that fake idol?? Awesomeness!

I guess I can root for the gamer guy because he's playing them like violins, but seriously, half of them are crazy and the rest are just plain unlikable.

I know Randy has been a favorite around here, but I have always despised him, and I thought last night was simply outstanding. I also think Bob played it brilliantly with voting for Susie still, giving him plausible deniability about the fake idol.

I also despise Corinne, and loved that she just looked so defeated when they thought they had an invincible plot.

"Plausible deniability" implies that it's plausible for Sugar to be smart enough to have created that fake idol. Considering that everyone except the people who have seen her with the idol thinks that she's retarded enough to have been to exile 10 times and not found it yet, that would be giving her a lot of credit.

But even if it means Corine tries to rip Bob's heart out, totally worth it to see Randy go through that. Douche.

I made one mention of him after the first episode because I was impressed he accurately read that Dan was just freaking bonkers when he returned from exile rather than hiding an immunity idol. That was the last good thing he did.

Last night was my favorite episode ever, next to the opener for a previous season where Rupert stole all of the other team's shoes.

So, I think we can dispense with spoilers.

I'm glad Bob won. I'm sad Kenny didn't know when to stop gaming. He really made some good moves (short of flat calling their bluff, he countered the fake immunity about as well as he could), but from that point on he went off the deep end.

Corinne makes me want to hurt things. Jeff nailed her when he caught her dropping show-biz jargon, she just wants her face on TV and will say whatever to keep it there.

Randy is jonvn.

RimmerAce isn't "faking" the accent, but he probably tried a little to hard to develop it while he lived there.

And I've finally admitted to myself that I will always watch this show, no matter how bad it is.

GD noticed there was no car giveaway this time. No curse of the car.

The reunion shows seemed extra meta. Yes, they always claim that the editing gives them a character, but this time the talk on that was really strong. I found myself thinking what a shame it was that we have no idea what really happened out there.

"Runaround Bob" with a triangle thingy written on the votes. WTH does that mean? We don't know, which kind of sucks. I know I don't want to see every minute of the 39 days, but I do want to know something so important they'd put it on the final vote.

The only reason I'd ever want to go on this show is to see what "character" I'd get. In a way, I felt for Corinne (until she went over the top) in that I'd probably be pretty pissed that stupid Sugar did so well. In the end though, Corinne was a 1 dimensional joke.

It's official - the first half of the season always sucks. They need to come up with a better way to present that.

I agree on the first half of the season. I never enjoy it until the merge when I get to know the people a bit better. By the reunion show I hardly recognize the first 5-6 voted off.

I was wondering about the car thing.....perhaps the auto companies thought with their current dire financial straights it would have been bad PR to do that this time around?

We haven't watched the show (or any show) "on time" lately, relying on TiVo and carefully avoiding conversations that contain spoilers. Thursday's and Sunday's shows were sitting unwatched, waiting for Heather and I to find a few spare hours. Yesterday morning, on the way to work, I turned on the Howard Stern Show - not worried because Howard had given up on the show a couple of years back. Within the first 10 minutes, someone calls in and says "A guy from Maine won Survivor last night." Grrrrr.

So we watched the last 4 hours last night with me knowing that Bob would win.

And I loved it. Like Jen, I think we missed some "important" stuff - but I'll give the editors a pass - they did a great job. Sad that Kenny went haywire toward the end - and it looked like he completely withdrew into his nerdy self again at the reunion. I'm delighted that Bob won.

As an aside, I'm a big fan of the writer/director Daniel Waters (Heathers, Demolition Man). Apparently "Sugar" has a small role in Sex and Death 101, which came out last year. I look forward to checking that out.

When Corinne made the "whining over your dead father" comment to Sugar, I wanted to jump through the screen and bitch slap her hard.

I've never felt such distaste towards someone on that show before. I hope the bitch gets everything that should come to her.

That said, I'm very happy that Bob won. I liked Sugar a LOT more than Susie though. Susie never smiled throughout the whole season, and I don't like that.
