uh-oh, two bands besides Gogol posted, and already one's a conflict with the Gogol Bordello show (I can't imagine being able to catch Bitter:Sweet at quarter to six and have a remotely good place to see Gogol Bordello at six-thirty.)

Eliza Hodgkins 1812
09-29-2008, 09:16 AM
Chris' itinerary is my cuppa tea. Those three are the reasons I purchased the tickets. May need to leave after Gogol to go to a cocktail and dessert party at my aunt's place, but I haven't committed to that, yet. May play it by ear depending on how E and I are feeling later in the evening.

I don't know Bitter:Sweet, but I'll take anyone's word for it they're a band to see (er, hear). But how can we see them at 5:45 and also see Gogol Bordello on a different stage at 6:30?

(I was also thinking of leaving after Gogol, because I want to take public transportation into Downtown ... but then I'd miss the other headliner, Mars Volta ... though I don't know squat about them. A heard a song by them a week or so ago. Neither floored nor disgusted. I'd certainly give them a shot, but not if it means getting stuck downtown after the trains stop running. How's everyone else planning on transport???)

At a multi-stage festival, 45 minutes between sets is a luxury. That's beyond enough time to get over to the other stage, more often you're lucky to have 15 or 20 minutes, and usually have to bail on a set early just to get THAT much time.

Would that I could go, but we'll be at Dodger Stadium that evening, hopefully watching the Dodgers crush the Cubs.

We're taking the Metro in. I may stick around for Mars Volta, but we'll see how wiped I am from the day. Actually, its more of the previous week that I'm worried about killing me.

The Mai Shi is crazy, energetic, insane fun. Bitter:Sweet is pure chill. And, we all know GB. GD's right, the time between sets is a luxury.

KOSS SILENT DISCO ADDED TO DETOUR!
The silent disco is a brilliantly simple concept: dancers are provided with personal wireless headphones which are tuned to the DJ. This gives the outward appearance of a stage full of people gyrating to silence - but slip on the cans and it all makes sense. The Koss Silent Disco provides partiers with (freshly cleaned) Koss Wireless Stereophones which are, forget they're on comfortable, and deliver astounding noise-canceling. Koss Silent Discos have already been raver faves at major fests like Bonnaroo and Vegoose. If you and your mate/date need to communicate, you simply both slip off the Stereophones and chat away - no yelling needed!

Well that was fun. The weather was perfect, and walking into the venue I was just filled with an overwhelming sensation of pure happiness. Noah and the whale was a perfect way to start the day, and I left the train tonight with the Mae Shi running through my head. Gogol Bordello, rocked as usual even the part of being squeezed on all sides by a crowd pogoing in unison. Data Rock was also a great show to see even if they don't all look Norwiegen. Bitter:Sweet was my one disappointment, love the band and their sound but the mix in the festival was very off.

I took lots of photis and will no doubt post some of my favorites of the day. I'll definately watch for this event next year.

I'd agree with almost everything in that article. I'm sure, even though I caught 5 or so acts, and some good ones amongst 'em, i missed the few rare standouts.

The debit cards were lousy, the environment rather bleak and uninteresting (except, 'natch, the Triforium), and yeah, Gogol Bordello was not at the top of their game. A million pounds of fun anyway! In fact the whole day was enjoyable regardless of the small demerits.

That there was so much going on in downtown that day rather added to the excitement somehow. Except that not being able to go to the Edison afterwards, on the only evening I'm likely to ever be a block away, was a big, unforgiveable demerit. Damn you, Hillary.
