Discovered just yesterday and confirmed by many, this 10' wide chunk of rock is expected to hit the earth's atmosphere tonight over Northern Sudan.

The energy released should be approximately equal to one kiloton of conventional explosives. Fortunately, no damage is expected, since the blast will take place in the upper atmosphere. Some fragments may fall to the ground, but the area is sparsely inhabited and they're unlikely to hit anyone.

The sight and sound, however, should be amazing — especially since the sky will still be dark when this meteor hits. The fireball may be visible over much of northern Africa, the Middle East, and possibly even southern Europe.

I haven't decided if I should  or  .

Kevy's picture is a fraud! That's no meteor crater. You can still see where the fuse burned its way to the bomb.

I actually kind of impressed that in all that vast expanse, they spotted what was about the size of a VW headed our way.....although admittedly, pretty much in the very last (cosmic) second. just as well I guess. if it was going to cause any sort of problems here on earth, there wasn't jack squat anyone could have done about it anyway.

Check the soil. If there is a cellulose residue on everything then it's a dead give away a missile was used.

That's true. And I hear that there were, mysteriously enough, no Jews in Arizona that day. I think we all know what that must mean!

JWBear

And no film or pictures of the meteor hitting the Arizona have ever come up. Obviously, there never was a meteor!

Yes, I think we've proven it was a neocon plot.

That's a picture of a plot. Based on the contents of the plot, I am pretty sure it is not a neocon plot.

Do you know who Eugene V. Debs was?

But I'll admit it was a stretch of lateral thinking that I figured would only amuse myself.

Do you know who Eugene V. Debs was?I didn't, but I do now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_V._Debs).

It is starting to make sense, but I think it lost some of its charm in the roundabout translation (my fault; not yours).

You're probably overthinking it, it's a very literal joke. Plot as in cemetery plot + political antithesis to neo conservatives = something that is clearly not a neocon plot.

I'm bummed. Apparently the event really was in the middle of nowhere (http://www.skyandtelescope.com/news/home/30528359.html) and no one saw it.
