Ford has made parenting a little easier by introducing MyKey, a programmable ignition key for Ford automobiles that monitors teenage driving behavior. With MyKey in place, various driving habits that parents may consider unsafe, or merely obnoxious, can be curtailed.

It covers all the common parental complaints: The car's speed cannot exceed 80mph. Radio volume is limited to 44 percent of maximum and, if seatbelts aren't fastened, no sound will come from the speakers at all. Extra-careful and/or paranoid parents can place warning sounds at 45, 55, and 65mph, blasting a warning of potential reckless driving to the youthful driver.

I think this is a great idea. Way to many deaths related to teenage driving. It's being built into the chips already in the keys.

I don't think I'd use this for my kids, but there are a few parents I would like to give it to.

LOVE IT.

Can it be programmed to remind you to drive home when dinner's ready?

When are they going to get a "Virtual Dad"?

* Automatically accelerates for yellow lights.
* Blairs horn at idiots who drive too slow
* Turns audio system all the way up for any Aerosmith song
* Automatically scans all radio frequencies for any Aerosmith songs.
*Automatically locks passenger side door when parked (enabled for son's only)

Etc...

I think this is a great idea.

Now how about a computer controlled car that will drive for you? Of all people, I could really use one of those things ASAP!

If the "Virtual Dad" is anythin like my father, it will sound like this:

"No, you can't have the car tonight. Get a job and get your own god damned car! And while you're at it, get a hair cut; you look like a chrysanthemum!"

Can it be hacked to incur a minimum speed instead of a maximum. Once you past 50, you can't slow down (it's like Speed 2, with a bus instead of a boat!)? That'd be fun.

:( My kids won't get to see it. Ever. I'm almost in tears, here, at work, in public.

I sense a pending announcement. Or perhaps just a very broad hint to somebody.

I'm sorry, Ford can do what they like, but I really still want one of these. And I want the engine to sound just like it did on TV.

Yeah - I was thinking that vacation sex must have done "something special".

But speaking of... no kids anytime soon eh?

I want a picture of JWBear looking like a chrysanthemum. :D ;)
